I never believed in ghosts, demons, or cursed places. I was a rational person. Everything had an explanation.
Until the night something whispered my name.
It happened at exactly 3:17 a.m.
I woke up suddenly to the sound of a voice near my bed.
“Ahsan...”
My eyes opened instantly.
The room was dark. My heart raced as I looked around. Nobody was there.
I checked my phone. 3:17 a.m.
“Just a dream,” I muttered.
I turned over and tried to sleep again.
Then I heard it a second time.
“Ahsan...”
The voice was clearer now.
It sounded cold. Empty. Almost inhuman.
I jumped out of bed and switched on the light.
Nothing.
No open windows.
No intruder.
No explanation.
The next morning, I convinced myself I had imagined everything.
But that was only the beginning.
Three nights later, I heard the voice again.
“Ahsan...”
This time it came from inside my closet.
I froze.
The closet door slowly creaked open by itself.
My breathing stopped.
A shadow stood inside.
Tall.
Thin.
Too thin.
Its head nearly touched the ceiling.
Before I could scream, it disappeared.
I rushed forward and turned on every light in the room.
The closet was empty.
Yet something was written on the back wall.
Three words.
I FOUND YOU.
I moved out the next day.
I rented a small apartment across the city.
For a while, everything seemed normal.
Then one evening I came home and found a note on my kitchen table.
It wasn't there when I left.
The note contained only a single sentence.
YOU CAN'T HIDE.
My blood turned cold.
I checked every room.
Nobody was inside.
The doors were locked.
The windows were shut.
Still, someone had entered.
Or something.
That night I installed cameras throughout the apartment.
I wanted proof.
I wanted answers.
At exactly 3:17 a.m., my phone alerted me to movement.
I opened the camera feed.
The living room was empty.
Then the screen flickered.
A figure appeared.
Tall.
Thin.
Motionless.
It stood directly in front of the camera.
Its face was hidden in darkness.
Then it slowly lifted its head.
The camera instantly went black.
I ran into the living room.
Nothing.
The figure was gone.
But on the wall above my television, written in dripping black letters, was my name.
AHSAN
I didn't sleep that night.
Weeks passed.
The sightings became more frequent.
I saw the figure in reflections.
In dark windows.
At the end of empty hallways.
Always watching.
Always silent.
And wherever it appeared, one thing remained the same.
It knew my name.
I went to police.
They found nothing.
I visited psychologists.
They blamed stress.
I consulted religious scholars.
Some prayed for me.
Others refused to discuss what I described.
One elderly man listened carefully before speaking.
His face turned pale.
“You said it knows your name?”
I nodded.
The old man's hands trembled.
“Then it has already marked you.”
“What does that mean?”
He looked away.
“It means it can always find you.”
I stopped using my real name.
I changed my phone number.
Deleted social media.
Moved to another city.
Then another.
Then another.
It didn't matter.
The figure always returned.
One rainy evening, I looked out from a hotel window on the fifteenth floor.
Far below, standing in the middle of an empty street, was the shadow. Watching.
Waiting.
Smiling.
For the first time, I saw its face.
Its eyes were completely black.
Its smile stretched impossibly wide.
My phone rang.
Unknown number.
I answered.
A cold voice whispered:
“Ahsan... I found you again.”
The call ended.
I dropped the phone.
My hands shook uncontrollably.
How?
How did it know where I was?
Then I remembered the old man's warning.
It wasn't searching for me.
It never was.
It already knew exactly where I was.
Years passed.
I became a wanderer.
Never staying anywhere for long.
Never making friends.
Never using my real identity.
I thought distance would save me.
I was wrong.
Last week, I discovered the truth.
While researching ancient legends in a forgotten library, I found a
manuscript older than 300 years.
Inside was a drawing.
A tall shadow.
Black eyes.
A wide smile.
Beneath it were chilling words:
It learns a person's true name only once. After that, it follows them until the end of their life.
My heart nearly stopped.
Then I noticed another sentence.
A final sentence.
One written in fresh ink.
Not ancient ink.
Fresh ink.
As if someone had written it moments earlier.
The sentence read:
Turn around, Ahsan.
My hands trembled.
Slowly, I looked behind me.
The shadow stood there.
Closer than ever before.
Smiling.
Waiting.
And as its icy hand touched my shoulder, it whispered the words I had feared for years.
“You can't hide.”
The lights went out.
And I was never seen again.
