We’ve all been there before; feeling empty, because we somehow finished all the episodes of a series we were watching not knowing what to do with ourselves after. Only to be left with so many questions and thoughts. That will only be answered; when another season comes out, but when will that be you think? Until then, you decide to start a new TV series to help the wait of your favorite show to return. However, picking a new TV show to watch after you just recently finished one; can be a little tricky. If you have ever watched the HBO hit WatchMen, then you should probably check out the Golden Globe nomination, Lovecraft Country on HBO.

These two television shows both had really good reviews and high ratings. They’re both very similar to each other, but at the same time very different from one another. Lovecraft Country is filled with monsters, magic, love, and excitement. While Watchmen is filled with Corruption, History, and Politics. When finding something new to watch. It helps when you can find something similar to your favorite show, but not too similar as to where it feels like you’re watching the same thing over again. That’s why WatchMen and Love Country go so well together like a sandwich and chips for lunch, Both are different but both in the same Lunch category.

Lovecraft Country takes place in the 1950s, where racism sadly lived in no shame, especially for it being the Jim Crow days as well. It follows a young black man named Atticus Black, an army veteran, who partakes on a road trip across the United States of America, on a quest to find his missing father alongside his uncle and High School classmate. However, he finds much more than what he was originally looking for when he’s led down a path of dark hidden secrets involving his own ancestors.

These two shows are both fiction but are filled with so many real-life events that actually happened. Lovecraft Country and Watchmen both brought light to the history that’s never really taught, one being the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 better known as “Black Wall Street”. It was a thriving community filled with black, excellent from black-owned movie theaters, airports, schools, churches, hospitals, and so much more. Sadly it wouldn’t get to thrive for long. When it was looted and bombed. Hundreds of black men, women, and children were killed in this genocide. How was a country that was meant to protect its people, were also sabotaging them because they were a certain color? The land of the free and American dream wasn’t that promising to them. Even when they worked hard for the things they earned. It was sadly taken away from them. Including their precious lives and family lives all due to hatred. Something that is taught not born with, the perfect example as to how the Cavalry in Watchmen is a growing hate group. These two shows show how damaging racism was with Lovecraft Country and how it still is with Watchmen.

If you enjoyed the hidden messages and detail in Watchmen, then you’ll love it in Lovecraft Country. It really makes you think and put things together from the past episodes. Sorta like piecing together a puzzle without even realizing that you’re doing so. These two shows complement each other so well. Both of these HBO series is jammed-packed with so much detail in each scene. It truly shows the time and cares the show creators put in with both shows. If you enjoyed watching Watchmen, then I can confidently say you’ll enjoy watching Lovecraft Country; both shows are great in their own ways, You just have to take my word and give it a try. It’s most definitely worth the time.
