Headless and Deadly
Stay Awhile challenge

It was the trip of a lifetime, a family vacation to a tropical island, and I could not contain my exictement as I boarded the plane. The travel agent said it was a Pacific Island, and I was more than ready to retreat, and to get some sun, and relaxation time.
When we boarded the plane, I felt a certain type of excitement I had never felt before, and as I looked at my family, I saw nothing but smiling faces.
When we took off, I felt I was leaving all my troubles behind, and it was a feeling of excitement and relief. As we left the glare of the city lights, that were near the airport, I felt the best was yet to come
Flying Over The Pacific
I looked out the window of the airplane, and just soaked in the beauty of the Pacific Ocean, and I fantisized what the island would be like. I would be sipping umbrella drinks before long, and sun bathing in the lap of a dream of a lifetime.
I looked out the window, over the Pacific ocean, and I saw nothing but darkness, and I admit that it was a bit intimidating.
Suddenly, I was swept out of my daydream, by a rumble I had never felt before in all my years flying on an airplane. I felt the plane rumble beneath my feet, and I wondered what that strange sensation was. Then I heard a noise that was unfamiliar to me, and it was the engine sputtering. I couldn't believe my ears. This couldn't be happening. I looked over and saw my husband sitting next to me, and my daughter and her husband and their son, sitting in front of us, and my son that was sitting across the isle from us.
I was trying desperately to keep track of my family members, when suddenly I was thrust forward in a forceful motion and I hit my head on the back of the seat in front of where I was sitting. I instinctively grabbed for the oxygen mask and put it over my face. It was like everything was moving at a fast pace and going in slow motion all at the same time. I briefly looked around for my husband and family, however, they were no where in my line of vision. I was confused and disoriented.
The Crash
Suddenly, a large thud and a gush of water, and a sweeping tunnel of wind and I found myself in the ocean struggling to keep my head above water in the dark ocean. I yelled out, "Help Me", but my pleas went unheard, for everyone else was struggling too. I suddenly felt alone, and considered just giving up, and sliding under the dark water, when I heard a voice, call out, "Mary". It was my husband Jim of thirty years, paddling towards me, in a life raft. He paddled over and helped me inside. It wasn't long before I spotted my other family members that were in a separate life raft, my son, my daughter and her husband and my only Grandchild, Matthew who was 10.
I was comforted by their faces, and I looked up at the sky for a rescue plane, surely, the pilot radioed that the plane was in trouble, at least on television that is what they did, but none was in sight.
There was a fire in the water next to the wreckage, so my husband and son started paddling away from the wreckage, even though it was the best place for rescue crews to find us,
The Island
We floated through night and came to one of the thousands of deserted islands in the Pacific ocean. When we first floated up on the sandy shore, we were exhausted, and we were all frightened.
When we first got out of the inflatable raft, we were downright scared of what we would find and what we wouldn't find. The first thing we did of course was yell "Is anyone else here?" They had to be, other people floated somewhere. All I could think of was that Tom Hanks movie Castaway, and I wondered if we were going to suffer the same fate as he did, and be here for years and years. When no one answered we did all the usual things like write in the shoreline, HELP!!, and we reasurred each other that they would be looking for us, and surely a plane would come over head soon and find us.
Before, we could go in the survival mode, and searching for two stones to rub together or two sticks to rub together to make a fire, we heard something rustle in the distance and we said great, someone is on this island after all.
We could hear the footsteps of someone approaching, however, this made everyone of us excited, as we started yelling in turn, "Hello, is anyone there?" Hello?" HELLO?" When no one answered, there was a hush, and then we started talking among ourselves to as what we were going to do.
Then the noise got louder, and a figure appeared out of no where, and it strangeness was something out of a movie. He had a voice of a man, and was wearing an over coat, however, he had a human form, however he didn't have a head.
I didn't necessarily care that he didn't have a head, if he had some way off this dam island, although he made my stomach turn to look at him.
The Fatal Attempt
My husband approached him, and asked him if he was the only one on the island, and the man said yes, I am, what are you doing here? My husband explained to him all about the plane crash. The man seemed unimpressed, and then the man told my husband to please follow him, and my husband followed his command.
The headless man came back without my husband, and he had blood on his hand, and he said "Who's next?", and I screamed, what have you done with my husband, where is he, and why do you have blood on your hand. Is that Jim's blood?"
He did not answer my questions, but meekly said, "Follow me, and I will take you to him, and so I followed him back through the brush, ........
And then everything turned black.............................
