Day 4313
This is fun. I just woke up and have no idea who I am or where I’m at. Pretty scary if you take a minute to think about it. From what I can see I’m in a hotel room of some sort. Pretty dirty one too. Definitley not a normal one though since there’s a copious amount of blood randomly splattered over most of the visible surfaces. Oh, there’s a body on the floor next to a rather large, overflowing bag of money too.
Looks like it’s going to be a fun day. At least once I figure out what the hell is happening.
So, you’re probably wondering why I’m not freaking out a bit more. Well, it’s pretty simple. When I woke up, the first thing I was greeted with was a bunch of bloody writing all over the wall in front of me. That writing clearly, if a bit messily, read “LOOK IN THE BOOK”. Duct tapped to the wall under the writing was a little black book. With a bit of hysterical terror beginning to creep into my mind, I tiptoed my way over to the book and snatched it. Answers awaited.
You’re actually reading the book now as a matter of fact. I decided to start from the beginning when writing today’s entry. I say today because the book is full of others. A lot of them. I actually read some for about an hour before I decided I better start writing my own. Need to record things for posterity as I think they say?
According to the book, I have a large issue on my hands. It seems my younger days were spent doing some very unsavory things. I was actually a pretty evil little shit from what I’ve read. Like not just dipping a toe in the whole satanism thing but jumping right in the pool and taking a bath in it. Due to this interest and during one of my, let’s call them, adventures, I picked up an unwanted companion. The book unhappily tells me in great, angrily descriptive detail this is the main reason for my memory loss. Each day I wake up not knowing anything about my past. No recollection of who I was, where I came from, or what I’ve done. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. Nothing but a blank slate each morning. I literally get to be a new person each day. At some point one of my past persons decided to start keeping a book about my adventures so I had some sense of what came before. After reading through the book I’ve decided this was both a good and bad idea.
My parasite, as I’ve come to think of it, has certain predilections of their own. We don’t always agree on how to handle the various situations we find ourselves in to put it mildly. The body on the floor is the result of one of those disagreements. According to a quick perusal of yesterday’s adventures said body is named Tony. Very original considering he was some form of drug dealer that a few of my other selves had been working with. A deal was done that I’d assisted with and he decided he didn’t want to share the profits. One thing led to another and suddenly Tony found himself leaving the partnership.
You might be confused at how I refer to my other selves as if they were other people. In a sense they are. I don’t have any memory of what they’ve done but they’re still me for better or worse. I have to know what they’ve and therefore I have done. Through my reading I’ve come to see the book is an invaluable tool. We use it as a simple form of communication. My others have seen the value in leaving detailed messages when something we are doing is going to take longer than a day to accomplish. Well, they leave detailed messages about everything. Especially our more colorful exploits. We apparently like to brag a bit. There are actually pictures with notes on interactions and conversations with theses people so that we can keep straight what’s been shared with them. Nothing worse than losing track of who’s an enemy and ally when it matters. You should really check out page 57-63. Let’s just say we were a busy little buzzsaw...I mean beaver that day. Also, page 23 is written entirely as a poem. I don’t know how we managed that but we did. We can be pretty creative when we want to.
Most of my other selves relationships are short lived if you can’t tell. Even the best notes won’t cover everything, plus once in a while a self won’t want to play along and will try going rogue with the help of our ride along. Luckily this doesn’t happen often. Our memory resets each night when we go to sleep. Any deserters go with it. Those times, whatever happens is just lost on us if they don’t write about it, which they usually don’t. My guess? After reading what they’ve been a part of they aren’t brave enough to end our life, plus our ride along won’t let them, so they just wallow around that day and feel sorry for the hand our decisions have dealt us. What a waste! I really wish we could talk to them and explain how free we are like this. They wouldn’t understand though. Too easy to play the victim instead of the victor.
Back to today though. I feel our little intruder bouncing around the old noggin so we should get ready to go. The body will be left behind. Not easy carrying a corpse out of a hotel. Isn’t really the type of luggage we want to carry anyways. He does have his uses though. I need transportation and a new identity for the day. I’m guessing he didn’t walk here so he must have keys on him. The large amount of money will go with us too. We have to have some way to finance our fun don’t we? You’re probably wonder how they haven’t traced things back to us after all these years. Im sure there’s a bunch of cases covering what we’ve done as well as a task force of some sort but as I said, we are creative. We cover our tracks as well as we can, use fake names wherever we stay somewhere and make sure we move often. We think our companion also has something to do with it but since we can’t really ask we aren’t exactly sure. It’s not a perfect system what with finger prints and, well, all the other evidence being left behind but it’s worked so far.
Oh and just to make it clear, future me, I should tell you something about our hanger on. I mentioned an unsavory past but didn’t explain. Let’s get this extremely clear. We aren’t a nice person. Don’t think we are. We don’t always do the nicest things. Sometimes a good deed or two works it’s way in but that’s rare. What I’m about to tell you will explain why. Our intruder is by no means a party to this. They actually works against us, as much as they can, hence those days when some of us don’t cooperate. You see it isn’t something as evil as a demon that we have inside of us as you may have assumed.
It’s an angel.
How the hell did that happen you probably just thought. I know I did when I first read it in another entry. Read through the book and you’ll see it wasn’t for lack of trying. We wanted a demon. We begged for one. We summoned one but at the last minute an angel, for whatever reason, intervened. I guess they were trying to save our souls or something similarly grand but instead they found themselves trapped in us. We were supposed to have a demon whispering in our ear instead we got an angel sitting on our shoulder. For the most part they’re pretty quiet but they do have an influence. Most days it’s easy to ignore them but sometimes they get a little hook in our brain and we have no choice but to do something they want just so they’ll shut up and leave us alone for a bit. Luckily it isn’t an archangel. Our nemesis doesn’t seem to have much power. It’s trapped in us and forced to watch everything we do while we get to reap the rewards of a little bit of their limited power. I imagine it must be quite torturous considering some of our activities and their pure motives.
Anyways, that catches you up on the basics. All you have to do now is leave whatever room or place you’ve found yourself in as unobtrusively as possible and have fun. I would say see you later but even in a mirror we wouldn’t recognize each other.
Before I got you I should tell you one more thing I read. I did it and it was very entertaining. Look in that mirror I mentioned and stare deeply into our eyes. After a few minutes you’ll be able to see our friend looking back. Eyes being the window to the soul and all that somehow lets us see each other. Lots of fun watching their pain let me tell you. Anyways, I’ll write more later so you aren’t lost when you wake up. I’ll do my best to make it easy but no guarantees. I’m entitled to my own fun right?
Never forget our one rule though. Don’t forget to tell us about your own adventures in our little black book!
