This is one of my favorite horror movies so far in October.

What makes Fresh Meat quite special, is that this movie was brought to life by a YouTuber known as Dead Meat, James A. Janisse, a popular YouTuber that has a lot of love from horror fans. About 557 short horror films were submitted for this film, and only 13 were selected to make the final cut for the first volume of Fresh Meat, an anthology horror film.

James and his crew did their own segment story as well, that was a sort of tie in for the rest of the horror stories. He played a butcher that owned a meat shop filled with spoiled meat, and his daughter, Jessica, was busy with feeding a machine that needed meat to keep it’s hunger at bay, while showing the girl these awesome horror stories for a brief amount of time.

Once the machine got hungry again, the girl would have to ask her father for more meat, to the point where this machine needs the freshest meat possible, and the butcher is forced to kill a man to feed this machine.

It eventually is not enough, and the butcher accidentally gets his arm beaten off by the machine, and he bleeds out to death. The girl attempts to wake up her father, not aware that he is dead, and she cuts off her own arm, to feed this machine, as she laughs with this strange creature, enjoying spending time with whatever the hell this thing is.

This segment was so fun, because it really left me with a lot of unanswered questions. How the butcher came across this creature was a complete mystery, and the fact that the girl was normalized to the torture of an innocent man, including her father’s dead body, means that the family had been feeding this creature for quite some time.

It was pretty refreshing to watch a good horror segment between the horror stories, because I have seen a lot of horror movies that have portrayed a story to tie in along with the other stories in the anthology movie, and sometimes, it’s not really that good.

Fresh Meat delivered a pretty original storyline between the other horror stories and the practical effects were so fun to watch too!

The horror stories presented in this movie were so damn original, and I really enjoyed each of them in their own way. I was introduced to hilarious stories, gory as hell stories, and some of them were very creepy. Honestly, most of these stories that were presented in the film deserve their own feature length film.

The horror concepts that were presented in each film were pretty fun, and I liked how each story was so different from one another:

  • hungry invisible dog attacks a family, eating them

  • a machine reveals the dark truth of what happened to a couple’s daughter

  • a fake out influencer gets a man slaughtered

  • a man that hears one sound that leads to him being haunted by a powerful entity

  • a great animation story about a woman fighting off a terrifying creature that breaks into the gas station during her shift

  • a woman doesn’t realize she is spending time with a shapeshifter

  • a girl is tricked to ride a bus with an actual demon

  • a couple realizes they are doing the exact same thing with both speech and movements

  • a dude plays a creepy clown bank that begins to haunt him, forcing him to continue feeding the clown coins to satisfy his violent urges

  • a babysitter is targeted by a witch from the woods that kills both her and her boyfriend in violent ways

  • a man must stay up all day looking after a door that contains a powerful creature that must be scared away with a single gunshot

  • a man uses a vape to light up his home when a strange creature breaks into the home and attacks both the dude and his girlfriend

  • a cop stops a woman on the road, not realizing that there is something very wrong with this driver

Every single one of these stories was so damn great, and I can’t wait to watch the next volume of Fresh Meat!
