Evil Dead Burn is Another Great Entry to the Franchise

Evil Dead Burn is a fantastic bloodbath with many characters that you won't exactly feel sorry for. Just like Evil Dead Rise, we are following another family, but this time, they are not exactly a tight knit happy one like the family from the last entry. While it still sucks that the deadites decided to target another group of people, I kind of feel that this time around, these people lowkey deserved their hellish karma.

What really surprised me about the film is that I found myself laughing in quite a bit of scenes, and there was a little connection to the first two original Evil Dead films. We even get a shocking post credits scene toward the end of the film, one that shockingly connects Evil Dead Rise and this recent entry together.

Please turn back now, in case you want to avoid spoilers! And another huge warning here, there is a very disturbing dog death in the movie, that was sadly the first kill among the family members. Just giving you a heads up, in case you are interested in checking out Evil Dead Burn!

The movie begins with a brutal start, similar to that of the first Evil Dead Rise, but with a little twist.

Two random dudes who are fishing in a lake are brutally slaughtered at the hands of a deadite. The demon then leaves the bodies behind, heading into the woods. It stands on the side of the road for a long time until night falls, waiting for the right moment to step out on the road.

We then cut to a party, and we are introduced to four of the main characters. Alice and Will are having a party for Joseph, who is with his girlfriend, Thya. It's obvious that Alice looks a bit uncomfortable around Will, and she keeps wanting to drink or smoke. This angers Will, and he starts a fight with Alice, in front of Joseph and Thya. They go outside, and during the argument, Alice tells Will to go to hell. Outraged, Will leaves the party drunk, and he drives fast on the road at night. We then realize that the demon from the beginning of the movie was waiting for him, and he crashes into the deadite.

Will gets into a bad car accident, but he survives. He awakens to find himself upside down in his vehicle, and he freaks out when he sees the woman stuck with him in the car. She tells Will the demons have been waiting for him, and after her head falls off, she places a curse on him, allowing hellfire to consume Will whole as he burns alive.

Later on, Alice, Joseph, and Thya are now attending the funeral for Will. It is taking place inside of a funeral home where construction is taking place, making the service very awkward for the family. After the service is over, Edgar, the father of Will, wants to say goodbye to his son on his own, right before he his remains are burned to be placed in an urn.

At that moment, Edgar panics when he hears his son knocking from inside the coffin. He attempts to get him out, but his son's burnt body emerges from the coffin, and he kills the man who was supposed to place his coffin inside of the furnace. Edgar then becomes possessed, leading to chaos for the remaining family members.

Death and misery take place in the family home, terrorized by the deadites.

When the family arrives home, Susan, the mother of Will and Joseph, discovers that Joseph has been using her father's stuff to write a book. He had found the book of the dead, including a weapon known as the Kandarian Dagger that could kill a deadite. Susan tells Will to throw everything away, but he fails to when he discovers Edgar is not acting like himself. Edgar becomes fully possessed when Alice finds him cutting himself with a knife, and he pleads with Alice to not tell Susan.

They go back to the house, where they begin a very awkward conversation with Alice about why she doesn't want to run her dead husband's restaurant anymore. Edgar then viciously attacks the family dog, killing him. The family goes into a panic, and Joseph decides to take his dad to the hospital, believing that he is having an episode. Thya tags along with him, and they are only met with more bloodshed when Edgar attacks both of them. Thya is killed when Joseph runs away like a coward, and he runs all the way back home.

Alice and Susan bury the poor dog back home, and Alice ends up finding the Book of the Dead. She almost finishes reading the curse to unleash more evil, but she stops mid-way. Unfortunately, this was enough for one deadite to possess the body of the dead dog. Alice barely escapes from the attack back into the home, where she runs into a scared Joseph.

The family steps outside to find Edgar and the dog now together, facing the family. Edgar proceeds to shoot himself with a gun several times, that Joseph had failed to use to save Thya. The family watches in horror as he purposely injures himself, and the family run back inside in a panic. They board up the home, preparing for a fight.

Then Thya returns home, but she is now fully possessed and is ready for a fight.

Thya comes back home now as a deadite, and she goes into a full-on battle royale against the family. They all receive brutal injuries, but Joseph is finally able to get the drop on Thya, killing her. Afterwards, Joseph tells Alice about the dagger, the only weapon that could kill the deadites. Susan who is now not exactly stable anymore, takes her mother upstairs. Her mother becomes possessed and convinces Susan that they can all be a happy family again.

Edgar is let back inside, and he shares a very disturbing, and passionate kiss with Susan. She then tries to convince Joseph and Alice to hand over the dagger, but they refuse, and they are brutally attacked by Edgar. He beats up his wife and son as Alice makes a risky escape, and Joseph pleads with her to get the dagger, right before he is dragged away by his father.

Alice is then attacked by the possessed grandma, and is able to fight her off, after receiving a messed-up injury to her ear. Susan is tied up in the bathroom by Alice, after she had attempted to help her mother kill Alice. She then reveals a sad and disturbing truth about Will, one that the whole family was aware of.

Will was an abusive piece of shit that beat up Alice, and the family knew about it, but turned a blind eye.

Will had been hurting his wife behind the scenes, which explained why Alice was so wary of even wanting to be near Will's family after his death. There was always this odd tension between them, and once the realization kicks in, it really pisses you off. Once Alice reveals all of this to Susan, she accepts it, and allows the deadite to possess her. She attacks Alice, but she is able to get the drop on her, and go into the attic, to search for the dagger.

She is attacked by a possessed Joseph now, and she stabs him with multiple weapons, until she gets the right one, ending his life. She is attacked by Susan and Edgar, and she escapes to the roof, where she is chased down the chimney. She uses a weapon to kill Susan with, and then takes out Edgar, winning the fight. She burns the house down, takes out the possessed dog, and is confronted with her final opponent, her dead husband. She is chased to the construction site, where she finally defeats the final member of the family.

She is rescued by the authorities, and the movie ends with Alice completely exhausted, smoking a cigarette.

Then we get two post credit scenes that left me with a lot of questions...and also sets up the next Evil Dead film.

The grandma was the only deadite survivor from the fire, and she goes after another victim in the first post credit scene that we get.

Then in the next one, we get the most shocking and baffling one.

We return to the same woman that helped with the funeral service for Will. She is with her daughter, and she asks about two random urns that the families never came back for. One of them is Ellie Baxter, from Evil Dead Rise. She suddenly appears to the little girl and instantly kills her on sight. She then says that mommy is back, hinting that she will be returning for the next Evil Dead film.

This is super exciting, because I was not expecting a direct continuation for the next Evil Dead film. Now that we know all the new Evil Dead films are connected now, I can't wait for the next entry, and the bloodbath we will be waiting for in Evil Dead Wrath!
