Iulia Hasdeu Castle

Ghost of German Monk

The Black Church, or Biserica Neagră, is a prominent Gothic monument located in Brașov. Built between 1383 and 1477, it serves as a significant cultural and historical landmark, representing the spiritual center of the Saxon community in the region. It showcases a blend of Gothic architecture and houses one of the largest organs in Europe. The church has been a central figure in the Transylvanian ecclesiastical reform and a hub for humanistic culture. It got its name after the walls were darkened during a fire in the 17th century.

It is haunted by the ghostly spirit of a young German monk who was murdered within its walls. Visitors have heard whispers and have seen shadowy figures in the church.

Ghostly Apparitions

Bran Castle is often referred to as "Dracula's Castle" due to its association with Bram Stoker's fictional character, though there is no historical evidence linking it directly to Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Dracula. Built in the 14th century, it serves as a popular tourist attraction and a national monument in Transylvania. The castle features a mix of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles, enhancing its allure.

At the castle visitors have heard disembodied whispering in empty rooms and ween ghostly apparitions wandering the halls.

Restless Spirits

Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle, is a stunning Gothic fortress located in Hunedoara. It is one of the largest castles in Europe and is renowned for its architectural beauty and historical significance. Originally built in the 14th century, it served as a fortress and residence for John Hunyadi. The castle features a mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles, making it a unique architectural masterpiece.

Prisoners were held and tortured below the castle in the dungeon, and now their ghostly spirits roam the grounds. It has become a favorite of paranormal investigators. The castle  is renowned for its haunting legends and ghostly tales, often linked to its dark history and association with Vlad the Impaler. Visitors have reported strange sounds and ghost sightings throughout the castle.

In Transylvania, the Hola Baciu Forest is referred to as the Bermuda Triangle. It is known for unexplained phenomena. Visitors get feelings of anxiety and nausea. Others have seen strange lights and hear disembodied voices echoing through the forest. The gnarled trees give it an eerie atmosphere.

The Ghostly Spirit of Julia

Iulia Hasdeu Castle, located in Câmpina, is a unique Gothic-style structure built by Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu in memory of his daughter, Iulia, who died young. The castle serves as both a mausoleum and a testament to Hasdeu's spiritualist beliefs, as he claimed to have received guidance from his daughter during its construction. (pictured above)

After his daughter Julia died, her father Bogdan believed he could communicate with her spirit. Now the castle is haunted by her ghostly spirit. Visitors have hear piano music and have seen a ghostly apparition dressed in white. Her spirit roams the castle grounds. The castle is said to be designed under the guidance of her spirit, making it a focal point for ghost hunters and spiritualists alike.

Stronghold of Vlad the Impaler

The Poenari Fortress sits perched on a cliff overlooking the Arges River. It was once the stronghold of Vlad the Impaler. Originally built in the 13th century, it was significantly expanded by Vlad the Impaler in the 15th century. The fortress features a mix of medieval architectural styles, reflecting its long history.

Legend has it that his wife threw herself off the tower to avoid capture by the Turks. Now her ghostly spirit haunts the ruins. To reach the fortress, visitors have to climb over 1400 steps, and along the way, they get an inexplicable sense of dread.

Birthplace of Vlad the Impaler

Sighișoara Citadel, located in Romania, is a well-preserved medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its historical significance and charming architecture. Built in the 12th century by Saxon settlers, it is one of the few inhabited medieval towns in Europe. The castle features colorful buildings, cobbled streets, and several towers, such as the Clock Tower.

Local legends speak of ghostly apparitions and inexplicable phenomena, particularly around the Clock Tower. Visitors report sightings of ghostly figures and unexplained noises throughout the citadel.

Ghostly Happenings

Snagov Monastery, located on an island in Lake Snagov, Romania, is a medieval Eastern Orthodox monastery believed to be the burial site of Vlad the Impaler. First documented in 1408, it features Byzantine architecture and has historical significance due to its connections with Romanian rulers. 

Visitors have heard disembodied chanting and have seen shadowy figures near what is supposed to be the tomb of Vlad the Impaler. Local tradition holds that Vlad the Impaler is buried at Snagov Monastery, making it a site of historical interest.

Paranormal Activity

The Witches' Pond, or Balta Vrăjitoarelor, is a mysterious site near Bucharest steeped in urban legends and folklore about witches performing rituals. This small pond, surrounded by the Boldu-Crețeasca Forest, is said to be cursed, attracting those intrigued by its eerie reputation and supernatural tales.

There are feelings of unease and sudden ripples, and inexplicable lights suddenly appear.
