Two Demons and Other Spooks

Situated in Gloucestershire, the Ancient Ram Inn dates back to the 12th century. The house was built on the site of many sinister happenings, among them child sacrifice, suicide, and black magic.

The structure itself is haunted by two demons, a witch, and other ghostly presences. People who have visited have said it ti one of the scariest places they have been to. Ghost hunters who want to visit must book in advance.

The Gray Lady and Paranormal Activity

About 1485. Sir William Martyn built the lovely manor house, Athelhampton House, in Dorset. The house still has its original 15th-century roof and minstrel’s gallery, as well as retaining its beautiful Tudor linen-fold panelling. The house is also haunted by ghostly spirits.

The Great Chamber is haunted by a pair of dueling ghosts and on the grounds you can meet the Gray Lady. In the wine cellar, a mysterious tapping noise can be heard, and some visitors have heard the sound of a cat padding on bare floorboards.

Meet the Blue Lady, the White Lady, and a Large Black Dog

Located in Devon, Berry Pomeroy Castle is the ruined fortress of Berry Pomeroy dating back to the late 15th century. The Pomeroy family owned the estate for more than 400 years, but in the 1540s it was seized by Edward Seymour, the powerful Lord Protector of England. At this time the castle was transformed into t a fortified Tudor mansion.

Among the paranormal activity here is a bluish light that appears in a castle window. The ghostly apparition of a Lady in White, thought to be Lady Margaret Pomeroy, who walks the battlements. The Lady in Blue haunts the castle tower, and you might also run into the ghost of a large black dog.

Haunted by the Ghostly Spirit of the Duchess of Lauderdale

In London, the lovely 17th-century Ham House sits on the banks of the River Thames near Richmond.

Elizabeth, Duchess of Lauderdale, was a spendthrift and the leader of fashion. She moved in the highest social circles of Restoration London and was a woman of beauty, wit and charm as well as boundless ambition. She has been described as “a violent friend, but a still more violent enemy”. She and her husband John Maitland, the First Duke of Lauderdale, spent lavishly on Ham House, filling it with fine furniture, art, and richly colored tapestries. Sadly, the Duchess ended her life in poverty and had to sell most of her prized possessions. The one thing she refused to give up was her house.

Now the Duchess of Lauderdale, as a ghostly apparition, resides in Ham House, particularly in her former bedchamber. Visitors have heard footsteps when no one was around and have seen a reflection of the Duchess in her mirror. Some of the staff pause at the doorway and say, “Good afternoon, your ladyship” before entering the room.

Meet the Ghost of King Henry VI and the White Lady

One of the most haunted places in England is the Tower of London. With the number of murders and executions that have occurred here, much paranormal energy has been left behind.

The Wakefield Tower is haunted by the ghost of King Henry VI, who paces back and forth in the tower at the stroke of midnight.

The White Lady makes her presence known by the scent of strong perfume. She has been known to wave to schoolchildren.

House Full of Ghosts

Situated in Gloucestershire, the Woodchester Mansion dates back to the Victorian period. In 1845, William Leigh purchased 400 acres of Cotswold parkland and built a magnificent mansion. The shell of the house was built in the Gothic Revival style; however, suddenly the workmen laid down their tools and never returned to finish building. As a Grade I listed building, it cannot be completed, but efforts are made to preserve its state.

To this day, ghostly spirits have taken over, and this is the place where you can see the ghostly spirit of a tall man in the chapel and the spirits of two old women. One visitor was surprised by a floating head in the women’s bathroom; others have been attacked by an unseen presence.

And would you like to take a look in the cellar? Down there is a spectral presence.
