Elevators are very common, something we use without thinking, but what happens in an elevator that loses power or gets stuck?

Betty looked at the elevator with some fear in her big green eyes, she hated elevators but she had a lot of meat on her bones and she could not walk up to the sixth floor of the dorm building. The elevator dinged as the door opened and Betty gulped as she stepped in. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she was quietly panting, panic was rising inside her but she had to take the elevator. Betty hit the button for her floor and waited as the door closed; she leaned back against the far wall and clutched her coat closer to her. It was not cold or anything but her fear sent shivers up and down her spine.

Betty watched the lights of the elevator as it went past the first floor and then the second, her fear was still there but her panic died a little as she passed each floor. Then the elevator car rumbled and shook, Betty braced herself on the railing behind her. Her panic was going up again, her heart racing in her chest as the lights flickered above her.

“Please, no, no, please,” she pleaded to the elevator to no avail.

The lights went out and she was finding it harder and harder to breath now, her breathes were getting shorter and she could was starting to see spots. The spots faded and lessened as she tried to regain her calm so that her heart would stop pounding in her ears.

Fearful eyes were glued to the ceiling of the elevator car and to the lights that continued to blink before the lights went out and darkness took over the elevator car. Betty fell to the floor, terrified and numb; she trembled on the floor as she could remember her childhood nightmares about the dark. The dark elevator car was silent except for Betty’s whimpers as she heard growls and hisses in the dark; she felt scales, fur, and rough skin brushing against her skin and even in her clothes. She could hear her heart pounding in her ears, she was nearly choking on her rising fear that something was about to get her, her breath was coming out in quick short pants and she was feeling dizzy.

Betty screamed and the lights flickered on again, she looked up and saw that she was alone in the elevator but that did not stop her heart from pounding or the fear that was stuck in her throat. The lights went off again and the feelings of scales, fur and rough skin returned but there were some new feelings. Betty could now feel claws and hot breath against her skin; she could smell a foul mix of odors from the smell of a wet dog to the smell of a decaying body. She could hear hisses and growls from all around her. Betty felt something hot, wet and sticky run over her face, like a tongue. She lost control of her bladder at this point, she could feel the hot urine soak her pants as the smell choked her.

The lights flickered on again and Betty saw a long tail covered in scales before it retreated with the shadows. There were monsters, creatures that hid in the dark, and Betty could feel the cold tears run down her cheek as she realized that she was going to die. The lights flickered on and off for a few moments, Betty could see the monsters that were in the elevator car with her when it was dark. When it was dark, they were endless; some had fur, some had scales, some looked like a bizarre mix of animals or animals and humans, and they were all the things of nightmares. Each time the lights flickered, the monsters crept closer and closer towards her and it seemed like an eternity.

"Is there anyone in there?" called a voice, a man outside the elevator.

"Please help me!" Betty yelled and she heard people moving outside the elevator.

"It's going to take some time, we'll get you out! Just stay with me!"

"Hurry! They're going to kill me!"

"Who? Who's trying to kill you? Is there someone in there with you?"

The lights went out one last time and Betty screamed. Her scream was heard by the people that were trying to get her out and by everyone that was in the dorm building. The would-be rescuers got the elevator doors open and were greeted by the blood that covered the floor and the walls, it was the only thing in the elevator. The blood turned out to be Betty’s but she was never seen again, she had disappeared completely.
