Dead Silence

"Dead Silence" is a 2007 horror film that follows Jamie Ashen, a young man who receives a mysterious ventriloquist doll named Billy from an anonymous sender shortly after his wife is murdered. In an attempt to uncover the identity of the killer, Jamie returns to his hometown of Ravens Fair, where he uncovers a local legend about Mary Shaw, a ventriloquist who was lynched by the townspeople after being accused of kidnapping and killing a young boy.

As Jamie delves deeper into the legend of Mary Shaw, he discovers a connection between the doll and the vengeful spirit of the deceased ventriloquist. Along with a local historian named Henry, Jamie attempts to unravel the mystery of Mary Shaw and stop her from claiming more victims.

The film is notable for its creepy and atmospheric tone, which is aided by the use of practical effects and minimal CGI. The use of ventriloquist dolls as a horror element is unique and adds to the unsettling nature of the film, as the dolls' blank faces and lifeless eyes create a sense of unease in the viewer.

While the film is successful in creating a tense and unsettling atmosphere, it does suffer from some pacing issues and inconsistent characterization. Some of the supporting characters are underdeveloped and feel like filler, while others are given too much screen time and detract from the main story line. Additionally, the film relies heavily on jump scares, which can become repetitive and lose their effectiveness over time.

Despite these flaws, "Dead Silence" is a solid horror film that offers a unique twist on the genre. The story is engaging and keeps the audience guessing until the end, with several twists and turns along the way. The film also features strong performances from its lead actors, with Ryan Kwanten delivering a convincing portrayal of a grief-stricken husband seeking justice for his wife's murder.

Overall, "Dead Silence" is a worthwhile addition to any horror fan's collection. While it may not be as memorable as director James Wan's later works, such as "The Conjuring" and "Insidious," it is still a solid effort that offers a unique take on the horror genre.

Story Of Dead Silence.

The film begins with newlyweds Jamie Ashen (Ryan Kwanten) and Lisa (Laura Regan) living in their apartment in Chicago. One night, Lisa opens the door to find a mysterious package containing a ventriloquist doll named Billy. The doll is accompanied by a note that reads, "Listen to the silence, see it in the dark, and it'll come for you, too."

Lisa is disturbed by the doll, but Jamie is amused and decides to perform a ventriloquist act with it. However, during the act, Billy suddenly stops working, and Lisa is brutally murdered by an unseen force. Jamie, who is suspected of the murder by the police, is haunted by visions of Lisa's death and becomes determined to uncover the truth behind the mysterious doll.

Jamie returns to his hometown of Ravens Fair, where he uncovers a local legend about Mary Shaw (Judith Roberts), a ventriloquist who was lynched by the townspeople after being accused of kidnapping and killing a young boy named Michael Ashen. Mary Shaw's body was cut up and her 101 dolls were scattered around the town as a warning to never speak her name again.

As Jamie investigates the legend, he discovers a connection between the doll and Mary Shaw. He learns that the dolls were made from her own flesh and that she used them to transfer her soul into them. The dolls were also used to exact revenge on anyone who spoke out against her or threatened her. click here

Jamie enlists the help of a local woman named Ella (Amber Valletta), who reveals that her husband, Edward (Michael Fairman), was the one who cut up Mary Shaw's body and scattered her dolls around town. Edward warns Jamie to leave Ravens Fair and forget about Mary Shaw, but Jamie refuses to back down and continues his investigation.

As Jamie gets closer to the truth, he begins to experience supernatural occurrences, including being attacked by the dolls and hearing Mary Shaw's eerie voice. He also discovers that Lisa was not the only victim of Mary Shaw's revenge, as several other families in the town were also targeted.

In the climactic scene, Jamie confronts Mary Shaw's ghost and destroys her, along with all of her dolls. However, he is too late to save Ella, who is killed by Mary Shaw's vengeful spirit. Jamie is able to escape the town with a newfound understanding of the power of silence.

"Dead Silence" is a solid horror film that offers a unique twist on the genre. The use of ventriloquist dolls as a horror element is unique and adds to the unsettling nature of the film. The story is engaging and keeps the audience guessing until the end, with several twists and turns along the way.
