The movie is the second installment in The Conjuring film series and is based on the case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators, who investigated a haunted house in Enfield, London in 1977. The movie was produced by Peter Safran, Rob Cowan, and James Wan and written by Chad Hayes, Carey W. Hayes, David Leslie Johnson, and James Wan. The movie stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively. The movie was released on June 10, 2016, and was a commercial success, grossing over $320 million worldwide. In this review, we will analyze the movie in detail.

Plot:

The movie is set in 1977, Enfield, London, where Peggy Hodgson (Frances O'Connor) lives with her four children, Janet (Madison Wolfe), Margaret (Lauren Esposito), Johnny (Patrick McAuley), and Billy (Benjamin Haigh). Peggy is struggling to make ends meet after the death of her husband and is under financial pressure to keep the house. One night, Janet claims that her bed is shaking and that she hears strange noises coming from the walls. Peggy initially dismisses it as Janet's imagination, but the incidents continue, and the family starts experiencing strange and terrifying events.

Peggy seeks help from the local council, but they are unable to help her. She contacts the police, but they are also unable to explain the events. The family is then visited by Maurice Grosse (Simon McBurney), a paranormal investigator who believes that the house is haunted. Grosse contacts the Warrens, who are world-renowned paranormal investigators, to investigate the case.

Ed and Lorraine Warren visit the house and speak to Janet, who tells them that she has been possessed by the spirit of an old man named Bill Wilkins (Bob Adrian), who died in the house. The Warrens believe that the house is haunted by a malevolent spirit, and they decide to help the family. They set up cameras and recorders in the house to capture any paranormal activity.

As the investigation continues, the Warrens discover that the spirit is not Bill Wilkins, but a demon who has taken possession of Janet's body. They perform a séance to communicate with the demon and discover that it is the same demon that they had encountered in their previous case, the Amityville Horror. The demon reveals its name to be Valak and threatens to kill Ed Warren.

The Warrens try to exorcise the demon, but their attempts are unsuccessful. Lorraine has a vision in which she sees Ed being killed by the demon, and she decides to stop the investigation. However, Ed convinces her to continue, and they come up with a plan to exorcise the demon. With the help of Maurice Grosse and the family, they perform a ritual to exorcise the demon.

The movie ends with the Warrens returning home, and Lorraine having a vision of Ed's death. She realizes that the demon has followed them home and rushes to save Ed.
