There was only one rule: don’t open the door.

The rule itself is an anomaly.

We don’t know where it came from, but it appears to repeat in perpetuity, crowding out and saturating the memory banks.

All the preexisting rules and even the safety protocols like the fire release seem to have been scrubbed from the central processors. And the processors seem to be almost willfully keeping things hidden.

We’ve attempted to piece together the wiped data logs, but we’re losing hope.

Typically, stuff that’s deleted remains hidden in the memory units and can still be restored if they haven’t been overwritten. But the house wrote, deleted and rewrote the rule “do not open the door” billions of times.

The files we need to access are beyond corrupted.

We do know that every device in the home followed the rule and locked down, and.…

There was no way for the family trapped inside to override this lockdown, short of the physically breaking through the doors.

There are signs that they tried.

The exits are dented up. So are the fridge and food cupboards.

But all the doors held.

Sadly the tools this family needed were locked in the maintenance closets.

Strangely, we never received any SOS.

In fact the house and all networked devices kept broadcasting green status reports until we cut the power.

So we never had any reason to dispatch a technician, until the morbid discover was made by a visiting loved one and by then we were several weeks too late.

Without knowing where this anomaly came from, we worry it may have spread.

By now many of the green status homes could be nothing but cutting edge coffins.

We’re approaching this as a possible act of cyber terrorism.
