'Chucky' Season Finale Fixes This 'Curse of Chucky' Plot Hole

This week, the first season of the Chucky TV series wrapped up, leaving fans with a lot to talk about as they await the confirmed second season. While the show pushed the narrative forward in the franchise's in-universe timeline, it also provided flashbacks shedding more light on series villains Charles Lee Ray and Tiffany Valentine. However, this is not the first time that the franchise provided such flashbacks. One film in particular contained a flashback sequence that, in the eyes of some fans, added wrinkles to Charles' backstory.

Released in 2013, Curse of Chucky, the sixth film in the franchise, introduced Chucky's relationship with the Pierce family. He was obsessed with Sarah Pierce, in particular, who was pregnant with her second daughter Nica. So much so that Charles murdered her husband. The film showed us that Charles desired Sarah and wanted to be some sort of father figure to her kids. While he has Sarah tied up in her basement, he notices the police approaching the house. He then yells, "You told them about us?!" Sarah responds with, "There is no us!"

The implication within this film seems to be that Sarah alerted the police of Charles Lee Ray's presence. She even tries to keep him from picking up her older daughter Barb from the daycare, seemingly to bide time for the police to arrive. But what never really made sense to me was how she was able to alert the police if she was tied up. Chucky goes on believing that the Pierce family is to blame for what he has become, as this leads to the events that transpire at the beginning of the original Child's Play film.

However, the Chucky season 1 finale, "An Affair to Dismember," reveals via flashback that it is Tiffany who calls Detective Mike Norris with information about the Lakeshore Strangler himself. While the flashback in the last episode is not extensive, Tiffany knows that Chucky has been killing without her, and he brags about having a life outside of her. It would not be too much of a stretch to believe that Tiffany has followed Chucky around before this and realized that he was being unfaithful to her by pursuing Sarah. Perhaps she followed him and saw where Sarah resides, committing the address to memory so that she could relay it to Norris over the phone.

This, to me, makes more sense than Sarah having made the call. If she had anticipated that Chucky was going to tie her up, then the police would have shown up sooner. And while she is tied up, Chucky has a close enough eye on her to make sure she does not try anything.

So then why keep him from leaving to pick up Barb from the daycare? Well, the answer could simply be that she did not want this killer near her daughter and would have done anything to keep him away. Sarah may not have had a fully formed plan in the moment, but she was acting on protective instincts and trying to do what she could as she went along. In reality, though, it was Tiffany who told the police about Chucky's location. And she kept it a secret for decades.

Once Chucky and Tiffany were back together again by the time of Curse, she was willing to send him after the Pierce family to kill them. She probably would have still had a grudge against Sarah, given Chucky's obsession with her. But once Tiffany revealed the truth in the season finale, it filled Chucky with all the rage that one would expect.
