Chucky Review: "There Will Be Blood"

Charles Lee Ray's ghostly appearance is among many things that sets up the upcoming season finale

Seriously, who had this on the 2024 horror bingo card?

As if the back half of Chucky's third season wasn't epic enough with Chucky basically burying his fellow killer dolls (including and especially his newfound rival in M3GAN), the previous episode actually ended with the doll's demise, and the actual presence of Charles Lee Ray's spirit. Same suit and same bullet wound that he had on all the way back in 1988, with the lone difference being that he's older.

And as if that wasn't epic enough, this episode sees Chucky face to face with Damballa...who is in the form of the Good Guy doll because, as Damballa puts it, Chucky's a big time narcissist. What follows is Chucky and Damballa basically bickering like an old married couple, as Damballa basically dismissed Chucky's massive kill count--even accusing Chucky of "coasting." Just as Damballa was set to send Chucky to the depths of Hell, Chucky begs for another chance. He gets one, but with one caveat: he would have to kill as a ghost, with no vessel.

Meanwhile, Pryce (who is somehow still breathing) is preparing to make Spencer Rhodes the new commander-in-chief, with the tall tale that President Collins is gravely ill with cancer. To continue this ruse, the two of them, along with press secretary Melanie Spiegel, collude together to knock off the double, Randall Jenkins, who does escape, only for a CIA agent named Frick (what, no Frack?) to pursue Randall in an elevator. While this is going on, Chucky's going on his wild rampage, and he unleashes a huge wave of blood inside the elevator, which kills both Frick and Randall. So now, Chucky can boast that he's killed Devon Sawa five times.

Shifting the scene elsewhere, Tiffany is receiving a mani/pedi from two officers she groomed, while the main one, Erica, appears after Tiffany realizes she needs one more item for her last voodoo doll. The item belongs to the sniper, and she needed it badly, as her execution was hours away. As Erica reported, the sniper was taking an off day, so Tiffany (while blasting the officers for continuously referring to her as Jennifer Tilly) sent Erica to get the object. It doesn't end well, as an oncoming car strikes and kills Erica. Honestly, I was surprised by that fate. I had Erica either freeing herself from Tiffany's stranglehold, or falling in deeper down thar rabbit hole by choice. The demise was a shocker, especially since it comes with the finale still to come.

As for the White House, a seance takes place, which sees Lexy ask about Caroline, with Chucky only saying that his only regret was that he couldn't properly mentor Lexy's younger sister. No more answers are given, as Chucky creates chaos and manages to electrocute Spence, Melanie, and the conductor of the seance, Dr. Carol Lindstrom. So in the final moments, we see Tiffany out of time, because Erica's demise pretty much seals it for her, and we see Nica Pierce appear and mention GG's for Tiffany, while adding that Tiffany was getting was coming to her. As for Jake, Lexy, and Devon, the trio are left with one option. Well, actually it's Jake that's left with the option: he has to go into the spirit world and deal with Chucky on his own. Holy guacamole!

Season 3's penultimate episode, "There Will Be Blood," aired on USA and SyFy on April 24, 2024. I watched on Peacock because of playoff overtime that night between the Los Angeles Kings and the Edmonton Oilers, but this episode was quite delicious. We didn't see an actual execution regarding Tiffany, so we'll have to wait for the season finale for that resolution. Speaking of, this episode really set the stage for what should be quite the epic season finale. I do hope that we somehow get a fourth season out of this; I feel that we should get one more batch of episodes after this season concludes.

Beautifully written review. You brought to life the inner workings of such a demented mind (Chucky).
