Chucky Review: "Panic Room"

Forgive my lateness for this, a little thing called the Stanley Cup Playoffs took my focus. So about the latest episode. Holy guacamole.

So Episode 5 ended with Chucky with the codes after killing President James Collins. Regarding this episode, we see Chucky give his vocal lament to Henry about his lot in life, while Charlotte is left picking up the pieces after her husband's demise. It doesn't help that Warren Pryce is badgering Charlotte and delivering his usual amount of blackmail towards the First Lady to keep her from leaving the White House.

Seriously, Chucky needs to off this guy.

As for our trio of young protagonists, Lexy badly wants to find Caroline and then kill Chucky, only for Jake and Devon to tell Lexy that Chucky is dying, for good. So time is running out for the trio to find Caroline, as Chucky's end is imminent. Also, we have a new wrinkle to the White House. Well...not that new.

So Pryce introduced Charlotte to Randall Jenkins, James Collins' double. Oh boy. So his plan is to pose Randall as James, despite the loud and vehement objections from Charlotte; meanwhile, Devon Sawa is back again. This marks character #5 for Sawa; two in Season One, one in Season Two, and now two in Season Three. Amazing as hell. The trio return to the 1600 Penn and participate in the family dinner, which sees both Grant and Henry ask about their father, and they are in the dark about what really happened to the Presidential patriarch. However, the trio decide to let Grant know the truth about "Joseph" being Chucky, and as for Chucky, he's with Henry and Randall, and he's about to get cracking on his plan to pretty much start World War III.

The elevator ride to the Situation Room sees Chucky shoot the one other person inside, while also venting about guns, mainly due to the fact that his original demise saw him shot to death. Once in the room, Chucky uses the codes to send warheads to the destinations of his choice: Moscow, Pyongyang, and the 90th Parallel North, otherwise known as The North Pole. Why the North Pole? Chucky's reason:

"I want to go to my grave knowing that every kid lucky enough to survive Armageddon will know there's no such thing as Santa Claus."

Holy moley.

Chucky boasts that he will take his final breath knowing that he'll go down in history as the greatest serial killer of all time, human or otherwise, but he is interrupted by the appearance of Jake, Lexy, and Devon, with Lexy demanding the whereabouts of Caroline. However, a Secret Service agent shoots Chucky, who laments that he needed more time to complete his murderous legacy. Randall manages to stop the nukes from hitting Moscow and Pyongyang, but could not save the North Pole, as Chucky uses his last moments to nuke Santa's Village.

So Chucky is gone, crumbling into dust. But once that happens, the episode ends with this:

He's back, folks! And he's even in the very suit from 1988, complete with the bullet wound--courtesy of Mike Norris. The last time we actually saw Brad Dourif as Charles Lee Ray was back in 2013's Curse of Chucky, where Dourif reprised the role in flashback scenes. The final moment of this episode marked Dourif's first appearance as Charles Lee Ray; during Season One, Brad's daughter, Fiona Dourif, actually played Charles Lee Ray in flashbacks, with Brad providing the voice. In the days that have passed since the episode aired, Brad Dourif publicly announced that he's retired from acting, with the only exception being Chucky, stating that if he's asked to continue the role, he'll do it.

Episode 3.06, "Panic Room," aired on USA and SyFy on April 17, 2024. Two episodes of this season remain, and I am hopeful that we'll get a fourth season somehow. For now, I'll just drink in this second half of the third season, and I am anxious to see how it ends!
