Chucky Review: "Let the Right One In"

Chucky continues to kill his way through the White House, which included adding a shocking name to his long list of victims

I still find myself processing a bit of what took place during Chucky's latest episode. I will definitely have details on that as the review progresses, but for now, let's get things started.

The episode, "Let the Right One In," saw Jake, Devon, and Lexy still stunned that Chucky had found his way to the highest office in the land, and they had to find some way to get in. Lexy figures that Grant is the best way in, as they are both active on social media, plus Grant lost a sibling, which can be used on Lexy's quest to find little sister Caroline. By the way, the name of Grant and Henry's departed sibling? Joseph. That's where the name for Chucky comes from.

Henry's still processing Teddy's sudden death, and after convincing James to allow "Joseph" to accompany him at the oval office again, we are "greeted" by the presence of Warren Price, a shadowy government agent who is investigating Teddy's death. Warren (after revealing that former POTUS Barack Obama owed him some dough from an NBA bet--"never bet on the Knicks") later finds some very small, Good Guy doll-sized footprints, and speaking of which, press secretary Samantha finds said doll in the oval office. That would result in Samantha being Chucky's next victim, as he nearly decapitates hear with the letter opener (the same one he took in the last episode).

"Two down, four to go," Chucky says, "but who is fucking counting?" The fact that he's keeping tally this season has myself, and a low of viewers thinking. So Chucky's looking to off six people at the White House, and there has to be a purpose. This has me thinking back to his scheme in Season 1, where Chucky's successful corruption of Junior resulted in the activation of a horde of Chucky dolls. Is Chucky's game plan to actually become the next Commander-in-Chief?! Again, can't be worse than the one we had from 2016-2020.

Anyway, Warren coerces Charlotte to cover up Samantha's death--"for the sake of James' Presidency," he says. As for the trio, they make some success in contacting Grant, but their plan to take down Chucky draws Miss Fairchild's attention, as the concerned teacher didn't want them going after the demonic doll on their own. She dropped them off to meet Grant, who invited them to the White House for a Halloween party. So they are basically in, but Charlotte's against it after reading their background. This leads to Miss Fairchild meeting with FLOTUS, but not before walking in on Jake and Devon about to make love--and giving them tips on safe sex.

The meeting goes well, but after Miss Fairchild takes a little tour around her surroundings (doing so after Warren summons Charlotte to reveal his findings about Teddy's death), Chucky pops up and smothers the teacher with the American flag, while quipping that he wanted another opportunity to make orphans out of his favorite trio. See? Now that is disrespecting the flag. Yet watch a gaggle of racists still say Colin Kaepernick was worse.

Chucky contacts Charlotte and Warren to taunt them, and it's after this that they find the body of the fallen Miss Fairchild. At this point, Charlotte's done covering up, but Warren resorts to blackmail to keep her in line, presenting photos of what appear to be James with another woman. While Warren stated that he didn't vote for James, he does see James as an honorable man and is willing to protect his Presidency at all costs. As for Jake, Lexy, and Devon, they are again taunted by Chucky, who informed them that he murdered their teacher.

Why Miss Fairchild?! Seriously? When I watched the season opener and saw her featured, I had her being with the teens as they worked to take down Chucky. I had this being a season long thing, but sadly, the last remaining parental figure that the trio had...is gone. Annie Briggs played Miss Rachel Fairchild in several episodes of the series. In Season 1, she was set up by Chucky, and by the end of the season, a lot of fans attempted to theorize that she was the human vessel for Glen/Glenda due to her appearance. We saw her again in the Season 2 finale, the last moments after Caroline was taken, and I figured she'd be in it for the long run for Season 3, but Chucky took care of that.

Born in Nova Scotia (the same province that gave us three of my favorite current NHL players: Nathan MacKinnon, Sidney Crosby, and Brad Marchand--all Stanley Cup Champions), Annie Briggs appeared as villainess Stephanie May on Private Eyes, with the episode airing just over two months before Chucky premiered. She also appeared in episodes of two more Canadian series: Dark Matter and Murdoch Mysteries.

Episode 3.02, "Let the Right One In," aired on USA and SyFy on October 11, 2023. From what the promo for the next episode reveals, we will see Andy Barclay again, and it's also set to center on Tiffany, who took Caroline in the Season 2 finale. We'll also see Nica Pierce as well; should be very interesting!
