Beneath the Bed
Every night, the whisper returned closer than before.

Mia was always afraid of the dark.
Even as a child, she hated sleeping alone.
Her parents used to laugh gently whenever she asked to keep the hallway light on at night.
“It’s only your imagination,” her mother always said.
But Mia never believed that.
Because every night, after the house became silent, she heard something strange beneath her bed.
At first, it sounded like soft breathing.
Very quiet.
Very slow.
She tried convincing herself it was nothing.
Maybe the old wooden floor made strange noises.
Maybe it was the wind outside her bedroom window.
But deep inside, Mia knew the truth.
Something was there.
The first whisper came when she was eight years old.
She had been lying awake during a thunderstorm when she suddenly heard a voice beneath her bed.
“Mia…”
Her body froze instantly.
The whisper sounded weak and broken, almost like someone speaking through water.
She pulled the blanket tightly over her head and began crying silently.
The next morning, she told her parents everything.
Her father checked beneath the bed carefully and smiled afterward.
“Nothing there,” he said.
But Mia noticed something strange.
The dust beneath the bed looked disturbed.
As if something had been moving there recently.
After that night, the whispers became regular.
Every night at exactly 3:07 AM.
Always the same weak voice.
Always whispering her name.
“Mia…”
Sometimes it sounded close.
Sometimes far away.
But it never stopped.
Years passed, and Mia slowly learned to live with fear.
She stopped telling people about the whispers because nobody believed her.
Friends laughed.
Teachers blamed stress.
Even doctors suggested anxiety.
But none of them heard the voice at night.
None of them understood the terror of lying completely still while something whispered beneath the darkness under your bed.
When Mia turned sixteen, her parents divorced.
Her mother moved away to another city, leaving Mia alone with her father inside the old house.
That was when things became worse.
The whispers no longer only said her name.
Now they spoke full sentences.
“Look under the bed.”
“We’re waiting.”
“Come closer.”
Every night, Mia covered her ears and prayed for morning.
Sleep became impossible.
Dark circles formed under her eyes.
Her grades dropped.
She barely spoke to anyone anymore.
One night, her father entered her room after hearing her scream.
“She keeps talking to me!” Mia cried desperately.
Her father looked frightened for the first time.
“Who?”
Mia pointed slowly toward the bed.
The room became silent.
Then suddenly—
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Something knocked softly beneath the wooden bed frame.
Both of them heard it.
Mia watched the color disappear from her father’s face.
Slowly, he knelt beside the bed and lifted the blanket hanging over the side.
For several seconds, he stared into the darkness without moving.
Then he stood up immediately.
His face looked pale.
“There’s nothing there,” he whispered quickly.
But Mia noticed his shaking hands.
That night, her father locked himself inside his room and refused to speak about what happened.
Three days later, he disappeared completely.
No note.
No explanation.
Police searched for weeks but found nothing.
Mia was left completely alone inside the house.
And every night, the whisper continued.
Now it sounded happier.
Stronger.
Almost excited.
“He saw us.”
One rainy evening, Mia finally decided she could not live this way anymore.
She packed her belongings and planned to leave the house forever.
But before leaving, she noticed something hidden inside her father’s closet.
An old notebook.
Inside were dozens of handwritten pages filled with strange notes.
The whispers are real.
They only speak at night.
Never look directly beneath the bed after 3 AM.
If they learn your name, they never leave.
Mia’s hands trembled while turning the pages.
Then she found something even worse.
Her father had experienced the same whispers when he was a child.
And his father before him.
The final page contained only one sentence written repeatedly across the paper.
They want someone new.
That night, Mia could not leave.
A terrible storm blocked the roads outside.
Thunder shook the house violently while rain crashed against the windows.
At exactly 3:07 AM, the whisper returned louder than ever before.
“Mia…”
She squeezed her eyes shut.
Then came another sound.
Scratching.
Long fingernails dragging slowly across the wooden floor beneath her bed.
Mia stopped breathing.
The scratching grew louder.
Closer.
Then the mattress moved slightly beneath her body.
Something was pushing upward from underneath.
Tears filled Mia’s eyes as she slowly reached for her phone.
No signal.
The lights inside the room suddenly died.
Darkness swallowed everything.
Then came the whisper directly beneath her ear.
“Finally alone.”
Mia screamed and jumped off the bed immediately.
She ran toward the bedroom door, but it slammed shut by itself.
The scratching beneath the bed became violent now.
Wood cracked loudly.
Something underneath was trying to crawl out.
Mia backed into the corner of the room shaking uncontrollably.
Then slowly…
a hand appeared from beneath the bed.
Its skin looked gray and wet.
Its fingers were unnaturally long.
Another hand followed.
Then a face.
Its eyes were completely black.
Its mouth stretched into a horrible smile.
But the worst part was its voice.
Because when it spoke again, it no longer sounded like a stranger.
It sounded exactly like her father.
“Mia,” it whispered softly. “Your turn.”
The next morning, police entered the old house after neighbors reported hearing screams during the storm.
Mia was gone.
The bedroom looked completely normal except for one strange detail.
Deep scratches covered the wooden floor beneath the bed.
And every officer who entered the room later reported hearing something strange.
A weak whisper coming softly from the darkness below.
Calling their names one by one.
