Bear is the Villain in Obsession

There has been a lot of online speculation of who the real villain of Obsession is. I believe that Bear is the main villain in the film, and while he isn't exactly your typical super villain, his refusal to take any action throughout the entire film is what makes him a bad person.

Bear is the one who makes the wish for his love interest, Nikki, to fall in love with him, after he fumbles the opportunity to confess his feelings to Nikki. She becomes obsessed with him, and this wish leads to a terrifying consequence for the four main central characters in this film.

Of course, Bear is the one at fault for the wish going wrong.

Before his friends are pulled into the chaos of his brutal mistake, we see Nikki suffer throughout the whole film.

Nikki is obviously going through the worse hell.

She is going crazy, doing weird things, and then we see glimpses of Nikki attempting to break free from the wish, but Bear refuses to help her. We then get one of the scariest scenes in the film, when he decides to call the company phone number based on the wish he made. The man on the other end of the line informs Bear that he can't cancel his wish, unless he dies.

Bear freaks out over this information, and the phone call only gets worse, when the man decides to play the audio of the real Nikki suffering from the wish. All we can hear is Nikki screaming in terror, and Bear hangs up in fear. To make things worse, Bear goes back home from his shift in a store and finds Nikki standing in the same spot that he had left her after leaving his home. She had literally vomited, pissed, and soiled herself, and Bear still did not consider the thought of saving her from the wish.

This is the moment that I realized that Bear was a coward at heart.

Then we get another scene later on, where Bear decides to go meet up with one of his friends, Sarah, who has a crush on him. The real Nikki is able to break through to Bear, and she begs him to save her, telling Bear that he must kill her to end her suffering. Bear gets upset, asking Nikki if it's that bad to stay with him in a relationship. Nikki is left pleading with Bear after he leaves her in bed, sounding like she wants to cry.

I was so pissed off at his character here, and this made me realize that Bear was 100% the main villain of the film.

Then things get ten times worse when he goes to hang out with Sarah, only for her to get slaughtered by Nikki. Bear goes crazy after her death, and attempts to get rid of his wish. He pleads with his other friend, Ian, to help him break out of the wish, and he wishes for a billion dollars instead. Bear goes back to the house, and while he is freaking out with Nikki going crazy again, Ian goes into the house, and is instantly killed by Nikki.

Bear attempts to end his life, but he chickens out the last minute, before Nikki uses her own wish for Bear to love her. This backfires after they share a romantic moment, and Bear ends up dying from swallowing pills. Nikki snaps out of the wish, and the film ends with Nikki screaming, looking at the bodies of her friends.

Bear is the reason that he got all of his friends killed.

He tortured Nikki, forcing her to love him while the real Nikki is trapped in a mystery hell, and this wish also led to the deaths of his two friends. If Bear had a heart, and tried to save Nikki beforehand, he could have spared all of his friends.

Bear is the real villain of Obsession, and he is the reason behind ruining all of his friend's lives.
