Don't Go Down There!

Anyone who's even casually acquainted with the horror genre should be aware of one of it's most famous formats, the anthology. Classic movies like The House that Dripped Blood, Creepshow and the VHS trilogy have kept this tradition alive and offer the audience a variety of scares usually within a 90 minute runtime. I've always been a fan of getting more 'bang for my buck' when it comes to horror and had a huge love for these films in my teenage years (who am I kidding I STILL do!). This is where ALTER comes in with an anthology that does all this and in just under 30 minutes! Almost unheard of I know.

So what is ALTER? It's a dedicated YouTube channel that has been premiering horror shortfilms from across the globe for the past few years. They have over a million subscribers and show no signs of slowing down in popularity. Their latest creation "The Tree" is an ambitious 5 story anthology with a central theme that proves evil never stays dead for long. So read on as we take a closer look at this new collection of undead treats.

Do NOT climb this tree

Here's the official blurb:

Constructed from the wood of the Tree of Knowledge, The House moves through time and space, manifesting evil. Step inside its walls in this anthology series celebrating the horror storytelling tradition, from matinee chills to otherworldly terror.

Hopefully, that has already wet your whistle towards the project, I mean, who doesn't love a bit of otherworldly horror? There's plenty to enjoy with the mixture of segments from different director's and it makes for a traditional, yet refreshing collection of anthology shorts'. There's something quite literally for every horror fan out there and personally I think it should be shown on screens in any serious fan of the genre's home. Better yet, it should be the warm up act for any horror movie coming to the multiplex's when they reopen. Don't believe me? Here's a quick run down of EVERY segment for those of you who are still on the fence about it...

Gotta love those titles

1. The Tree: A Frightful animation that delves into the history of the biblical tree of knowledge over the centuries.

2. The Projectionist: At a special midnight movie marathon, a mysterious projectionist shows a movie that BECOMES a living nightmare.

3. Unexplained Phenomena: A live broadcast in an abandoned house leads investigators into a deadly trap.

4. Let Us In: A secret cult meet their match in a deadly game of who's God is the strongest

5. Seven Moons: Alien terror strikes when a group of astronauts mission goes astray when they meet an evil force.

Here's looking at YOU kid!

And So...

Now, more than ever, is the time to dream and lose yourself in the vast imaginative world of the silver screen. Everyone can agree that the world is a scary enough place and Horror is a perfect companion for these uncertain times. These stories are a much better thing to keep your thoughts on than the daily news report thats for sure. This anthology looks like it is set to become a regular series for the busy channel and with 3 uploads each week that's a lot of entertainment."The Tree" is out now, so don't just sit there reading, click that video below and get ready for 26 minutes of pure horror entertainment. Be sure to let the filmmakers know in the comments which segment was you favourite and prepare to be ALTER'ed forever...
