Alphabetti Spaghetti: 'The Walking Dead' Star Responds to Major Fan Theory About Her Character
McIntosh herself has addressed the theory that she will be playing the villainous Alpha on 'TWD.'
While AMC's #TheWalkingDead is still trying to recover from another season of murder and massacres, fans are hungrily awaiting the arrival of Season 8. As we wade through the various shards of brain and skull matter that #JeffreyDeanMorgan's Negan left behind in Season 7, some are already looking ahead to the show's next Big Bad.
After cannibals, hunters, the eye-patched Governor, and now Morgan's leather-clad Negan, there are "whispers" of someone even worse on the horizon. Not only is that certain person's arrival inevitable, but now one of the show's stars has spoken out on the theory that she could be the one to play that part.
Learning The Alpha-Bet
In the days after Negan's villainy and in a time of peace, a woman named Alpha takes up the mantle of the next merciless dictator when her and her Whisperers cross paths with Rick. The show is frequently caught up in its own hype, while the likes of #ScottGimple and #GregNicotero are well known fiends at hiding clues in plain sight. However, the latest theory that Pollyanna McIntosh's Jadis is queuing herself up to be the "Alpha" female has caught some traction.
Unable to escape the gnashing jaws on fandom, McIntosh herself has addressed the theory that she will be playing the villainous Alpha on TWD. Speaking to ComicBook.com, she doesn't confirm the news (well, why would you), but she certainly adds some more bodies to the bonfire of suspicion:
"I think, you know, in a very diplomatic, politician type of way, I can say I think anything is possible in this universe we're inhabiting right now, and that's one of the really strong points of the show because I'm not going to tell you anything!"
For fans of the #comicbook, you may remember that Issue 130 introduced us the mysterious band of survivors who dubbed themselves Whisperers. Wearing the skin of the undead, the group believed that the Earth should be returned to the walkers and humanity was on its way out — jeez, talk about killing the fun. That being said, what is a group without its leader? Alexandria has Rick, the Hilltop has Ezekiel, and the Whisperers are expected to have Alpha.
Whispers Of What's To Come
As the show rolls forward, barely a character can whisper something in someone else's ear without them being accused of being the next Alpha, but the Jadis theory stands strong. Gimple and co. clearly aren't done with her yet, and Jadis's betrayal of Rick at the end of last season is sure to have long lasting consequences. We may have seen relatively little of the riddle-talking leader of the Junkyard, but she certainly has all the stoic qualities of Alpha. With the Whisperer leader known for her uncompromising resolve and shaved head, it could explain Jadis's dire bowl cut hairdo — it could all be a wig!
Back in February, McIntosh threw cold water over the speculation and played dumb about only hearing of Alpha through fandom, while this time around she seems much more open to the idea. Given the mixed response to Jadis and her Yoda-esque speech ways, I'm kind of hoping that this isn't the case. McIntosh is undoubtedly a skilled actress, but with us still being embroiled in the Negan era, here's hoping the show holds off just a little bit longer on even a whisper of the Whisperers.
