Abandoned Dead
Debris of Carver High School

The blue double doors were rusted and boarded shut. I had a pry bar, but it was nearly impossible to get the aged wood to budge even a centimeter.
"I'll go around back!" Link hollered. Kyle joined him as we keep a buddy system in places like this.
I backed away from the doors to get the full view. The words Carver High School stood out in blue on a dirty white background. It's been abandoned for 40 years. I don't know the exact story, but something to the effect of it running out of funding, so they merged with another school.
"There has to be a way in." I thought to myself.
"Over here!" Mark yelled. He was standing in front of the gym doors. "It was cracked open when I came around that corner. Looks like this is how people have been getting in. Let me see that pry bar.
He took the pry bar and stuck it into the cracked open door and gave a good yank and it popped wide open. "Got it!" We opened the door wide and put a rock in front of it to make sure it didn't slam shut behind us.
It was a full gymnasium. Cob webs and spiders made their home among the lights and nets. Rubble, wood, and old school assignments litter the floor. Link and Kyle ran around the corner and joined us just as we entered the antiquated high school.
Hundreds of little eyes peeked upon us as we see the bats that hung from the ceiling. We walked softly as not to disturb them, so we would not end up in a vortex of dark wings trying to take our heads off. And unfortunately, Mark had different plans. He found an old basketball and shot for three. As soon as the ball hit the rim we were waving our hands above our heads and screaming as we fought for our lives through the darked winged mammals. We entered a hallway where we slammed the door and could relax. Kyle punched Mark in the arm, "You idiot, we could have got rabies!" Mark laughed, "I'll let you know when you start foaming at the mouth."
"Look at this place." Link directed our attention to a hallway of lockers and classrooms that look like it hasn't been touched since the Reagan era. Some lockers were open and had ancient homework assignments and text books still residing in them.
"Looks as if they just walked out and never came back." Link said while holding up a red coat.
We walked to the end of the hall to another hall. We took a sharp right and started checking out classrooms. Bulletin boards still had achievements and pictures of the previous students. Looks like prom was approaching. The ghosts of the past were still alive in this standing tomb.
I walked to the first classroom on my right, where I saw the strangest thing. There was a man. A man was slumped over in the first desk.
"Guys!" I whispered loudly. They came around me and peeked through the slim rectangle window. "What do you think? He asleep?" I asked?
"I don't know, go check it out." Kyle responded.
I put my finger up to my lips as we creep the door open slowly as to not startle him. We walk in and approach slowly and something instantly didn't look right. At first I thought it was a mannequin someone placed here as a joke.
"He's dead." Mark said astonished.
I look at Mark and take another look at the man. He's hunched over, his skin was as white as a ghost and blood was beneath him, dripping on the floor. I look at Mark just as the door slams shut! We jumped and almost knocked the corpse out of the desk.
"What was that?" I asked. "Beats me." Mark replied.
I scan the room and I don't see Kyle. "Where's Kyle? Maybe he slammed it."
We exited the class room and the hallway was empty. I motion for Mark and Link because I see spots of blood on the floor. We follow the small spots and It leads to the men's bathroom. Mark slowly opens the door and in the darkness is Kyle laying on the cold tile floor. We rush to him and fall to our knees! "Kyle! Kyle! What happened?! Hang with me Kyle! Call 911!" I yelled to the other guys. "There's no signal! I can't! There's no signal!" Just then I see a void in the eyes of our lifelong brother and friend. He was gone.
"SHIT! What Happened?!" Mark and Link were in shock and couldn't move. "I I I don't know. But we need to get out of here!" Mark told me. "We can't just leave him, Mark!" He grabbed me and responded, "We need to! Just until we get back to town. If we don't then we may not get out of here either."
Tears streaming down my face and clinching on to Kyle's arm, I agreed. My whole body was shaking. I don't know if he was shot or stabbed, but I didn't hear any gunshots. Still trying to figure it out, I released Kyle and grabbed Mark's hand.
"C'mon." Link whispered. We cracked the door and looked down the hallway. We slowly were stepping on debris and did our best to not make too much noise as to not awaken whatever monster lives within these walls.
Then we stop and we all hold our breath.
Behind us we hear a metal scraping. Too afraid to look, we stood and shivered in the hallway as everything turned ice cold. I slowly turned as Mark and Link followed my lead. Cold sweat fell down my cheek and at the end of the hallway stood a middle aged man in track pants, a t-shirt, with a dark beard, medium build, shorter than six feet, and with a scar which looks like a severe burn to the right side of his face. In his hand was a machete that was dripping with Kyle's blood. A wide smile was on his face. He was dragging the bloody blade across the tile of the wall. He didn't need to say anything, we took off running. We turned left back down the first hallway and ran into the gym. He was already there.
He was approaching us and with a guttural voice he spoke slowly, "Welcome to my home. Please, Stay. I haven't had visitors in a while. I promise, you won't want to leave."
Just then, Link kicked the basketball at him. He missed, but it got the attention of the bats. The bats swarmed and while he was distracted by the bats we took off out the gym doors and hopped on our bikes and rode down the dirt road.
The man picked up Kyle's bike and brought into the school...Where we left our friend, Kyle.
