Spirits are all around us. Most of the time we don't realize it because we can't see them. Or can we? Sometimes if they want to be seen they will make an appearance. I was able to meet my Grandfather—who had passed away seven years before I was born. Feeling a little weird yet, you haven't read anything yet.
Our First and Last Encounter
I remember it was winter of '98. My sister was away that weekend so I was by myself in the room. I was ready for bed when something weird happened.
As I went to close my eyes, I saw a tall man standing in front of my dresser. First—my door was locked so how did he get in there? Second—it could not have been my dad he was shorter. So who was this guy?
He was very handsome. His clothes looked like they were from the 70s, but there was something about his smile. His hair was brown and parted to the side. But it was that smile, I swore I knew that smile from somewhere. That's when I remembered a picture my mother showed me of her parents and there he was—my grandpa. I remember seeing it on the wall in a frame.
So I did what every teenager would do—I spoke to him.
- Hi Grandpa, is that you?
He wouldn't talk to me, just smile. In a way, I was a little nervous that I pinched myself to make sure I was awake. Somehow I didn't feel like he was there to hurt me. So I decided to do a test.
I put the covers over my face and when I took the covers off, he was closer to me. He was standing over me. Now I remember clearly the room was so warm from the heat but I felt the biggest chill as he pressed his hand on my right cheek, I couldn't believe it.
He felt like a popsicle. Clearly, it felt like a hand resting on my cheek.
I closed my eyes for a minute and when I opened them, he was gone. I didn't know what to think at the time. I called for him and then I realized he's not going to answer me. He's a spirit.
Most people would probably run out of the room screaming after that. Not me. I just wondered how can I explain to my family what had happened tonight. Would they believe me?
Apparently I wasn't the only visit.
Next morning I was with my mother in the kitchen, wondering how to tell her that I saw her dad. After all, she wouldn't put me in a mental hospital for being crazy, right? So I took up the courage and told her.
So Mom, something weird happened last night? I know you will think i'm crazy for what I am about to tell you, but I saw Grandpa last night.
Cue the silence and stares.
He was standing at my dresser and then he came close to me and caressed his hand on my right cheek.
A little more silence and then to my surprise, she told me she too saw him last night. Phew, that was close—I'm not crazy. Yay!
She saw him come into her room and stroked her hair on the right side and left. She felt the same chill that I did. She was happy that she was able to have this experience since his death. It was after all almost 20 years since his death.
So what did I learn from this experience?
This was such an amazing interacting experience. I never thought that I would be able to meet my grandfather. Although I wondered why can't they communicate with you. I guess maybe because they are an energy that they have no voice. There's so much to learn and understand.
But on to the next experience. Catch ya soon. If you dare for more.
