A Ghost Hijacked My Dream

"It seemed as if she inserted her narrative into every part of my dream that she could."

A chill runs through me even now as I'm writing this. A young disembodied woman, a ghost, found me in a dream and attempted to communicate with me. I'm convinced she was a spirit, and here's why.

Certain details are blurry but I'm going to do my best to tell the dream in the order I received it. It's important to note that the dream itself wasn't paranormal. In fact, nothing about the narrative of the dream was alarming. It was what entered my dream that was both unsettling, yet intriguing. As if I was handed a script before my dream started, I knew two things: One, a shy young woman was attempting to ask me out and I said yes. And two, I knew I wasn't single but I couldn't help but feel bad for her. I felt compelled to say yes. She had a fair complexion, fire red hair, and large thick pink glasses. The style of the glasses definitely stood out to me the most. If I were to guess what decade they came from, I'd say somewhere between the 80s or early 90s. She also had a noticeable scar near her hairline.

Dreams tend to have terrible transitions. That was the case for my dream especially. I would be in one location, and then suddenly I'd be in a completely different location later. The first place I was in was a classroom. It was daytime, and my desk was facing a window. I found myself staring out the window as the teacher went around passing out assignments. When she got to me, however, she didn't hand me an assignment. Instead, the teacher handed me a photograph of the woman I saw earlier. The photo looked dated and in the center was a little red haired girl. It was clearly a baby picture of the same woman. I had trouble researching what was going on with the top of her head, but an extended Google search led me to assume she had some form of hydrocephalus. Her head was more tall than large, and I then knew where the scar on her head came from. It's also important to note that the top of her head post-surgery was not perfect. Her head was slightly misshapen. This part of the dream is where things got especially strange. The teacher handing me a photograph instead of an assignment made zero sense. It was as if the mysterious woman was trying to clue me in on something. It got much weirder from there.

A few blurry hallways later I found myself walking in a drop yard. Now, my actual job in real life involves a company that builds trucks and has a few of these drop yards. In the yard there was a Salem truck with two drivers talking to each other. As I approached them, I could overhear their conversation. They were complaining about a woman. From the sound of it, she was their boss. I grew nervous when I found out about this. My mind had already connected dots that were formulated by the dream. Suddenly I said out loud to the drivers, "I know her. I agreed to go on a date with her daughter." One of the Salem employees responded, "Oh boy." The rest of the dialogue is difficult to remember, but I do know the conversation from there involved them telling me to watch out and be careful.

After waking up, the dream stayed on my mind. Who was this woman and what did she want with me? It seemed as if she inserted her narrative into every part of my dream that she could. I thought back on the details of the dream and decided to take notes. Here are the clues that stood out to me:

1. Her glasses. They looked at least 30 years old. If this was a spirit that contacted me, it means she died some time ago.

2. The photograph. It looked old and it showed her as a toddler, somewhere between 2-3 years old. She had some sort of disease that affected the size of her skull.

3. The scar. Surgery was done on her, and it's important to note that her shyness could have actually been because of this surgery. Could it have also impacted her mentally?

4. Her mother. From the sense of dread I can only assume she wasn't a good person. Judging from the looks on the drivers' faces I'd say she was angry, unpredictable, and maybe even violent.

Spirits contact people for a reason. If this was a spirit, it means she obviously died. So, how did she die? I can't help but consider the possibility that she was murdered. If this ghost did in fact give me these clues on purpose, then... Does that mean she was murdered by her own mother?

A few days after I had the dream, something else stood out to me. Even when I was clearly standing in front of the mysterious woman at the start of the dream, she never actually spoke to me. The picture, her mother... She put things in front of me. A dream is a bit like a roller coaster. Assuming you're not lucid dreaming, you go where your subconscious leads you. It's believed spirits can better contact you when you're in this state. It's also believed that you can't hear what a spirit has to say unless you have the ability to hear the dead. If these things are true, she threw everything she could at me to get my attention.

So, now I'm left wondering what I do next. Am I even prepared to solve a murder if it comes to that? What happens if I didn't remember everything she was trying to tell me? I won't lie, it's uncomfortable to think about.

Sometimes, just as I begin to drift off to sleep, I wonder if I'll encounter the mysterious woman again.
