3 Reasons Why the Silent Hill Revelations Movie was Weird

This movie had a lot of noticeable flaws, and I'm mixed with whether or not I like this movie.

The first Silent Hill movie was in my eyes, a perfect masterpiece to the Silent Hill franchise. Sure, there were several flaws, but it was so easy to overlook these flaws, because the director who made the film understood what Silent Hill is supposed to be like.

When it comes to the second film in the franchise however, it's a completely different story. I had seen this movie years ago when I was a kid, and at first, I thought it was awesome. Keep in mind, I did play the game prior to watching the movie, but I wasn't really aware of 'great storytelling' at the time. I think I was so in awe of the movie at the time, because I kept freaking out with all the cool stuff I had remembered in the game.

Then once I was a bit older, I played the game of Silent Hill 3 again, and then watched the movie.

This time around, I noticed a lot of flaws in the movie, and I was left so confused with why the writers did so many changes to the source material of the original game of Silent Hill 3.

The changes were so bad, that I found myself feeling so conflicted with how to feel about the movie overall.

Here are the three main factors with the changes I did not like for the movie.

1. Pyramid Head should never have been in this movie.

I think the second film was trying to continue the arc of Pyramid Head being the guardian of Heather's counterpart, Alessa, the girl she had been born from again as a new person to be raised in the real world. While I can give credit to Pyramid Head looking super cool in the second film, it was still kind of odd to see him here.

I think it had to do with the new atmosphere for the second film. The first film really felt like Silent Hill to me, and that is the reason why I didn't care about Pyramid Head being in the first film. With the second film, he does seem a bit off in this one, like he does not belong at all. At this point, I felt that Pyramid Head was being used for promotional material for the movies, and yes, he is a very popular character from Silent Hill 2, but come on. There are other monsters that could have been used for this movie!

2. Turning Vincent into Heather's love interest was the worst decision/change for the story of Silent Hill 3.

After watching the movie again, I was so baffled by this change. In the game, Vincent comes off like a creepy dude, who is trying to convince Heather to do his bidding, to conduct his plan of trying to take down the leader of the Silent Hill cult. He's a bit of a schemer too, and he even admits to Heather that he finds the evil in Silent Hill fascinating, which disgusts Heather.

In the movie, Vincent is Heather's love interest...and it gets me so mad.

Turning Vincent into a cute dude from the Silent Hill cult for Heather to fall in love with was the worst decision this movie could have made. It felt like the director never played the game, and only took certain names from the game for the movie.

I still think this is the worst writing change the movie could have made.

3. The movie completely erases the father like bond Heather had with Douglas Cartland.

This was another change for the story that really pissed me off. Instead of throwing in Vincent as Heather's love interest, why not have the detective from the game be Heather's sidekick in the movie? In the game, Douglas Cartland was hired to find Heather, and the leader of the cult uses Silent Hill to hunt down Heather, causing Douglas to switch sides once he realizes how evil this cult is.

Heather and Douglas team up in the game, going to Silent Hill to confront the leader of the cult and take her down for good.

In the movie, Douglas is introduced in one scene, follows Heather, and is then killed by a monster from out of nowhere.

This was pretty dumb, and I was so disappointed when I watched this scene in the movie. Even though this movie was pretty bad, I would have appreciated the film to a point if they had written Douglas to be Heather's sidekick. Even if Vincent was miscasted so bad, I could have forgiven the film if it had focused on Heather and Douglas as the main duo.

I'm still not sure how to feel about this movie, but all I can say for now, is that I would 100% watch this movie over the awful adaptation we got from Return to Silent Hill...and yeah, I would say that the second film is ten times better than the third film!
