It's finally late October, which means it's time to binge all the horror movies you're afraid of watching any other month of the year.

Here's a list of my personal favourite horror movies, including the very famous modern ones that I love and also love to hate.

So on Halloween night, get your friends or your significant other, turn off the lights, get some candy and popcorn, and enjoy a bunch of diverse horror movies that fit everyone's fancy!

10.'Suspiria' Directed by Dario Argento

Suspiria follows dancer Susie Bannon who goes to a ballet academy in Europe. Once there, she realizes something is very wrong and soon finds out that the academy is overrun by a coven of witches.

This film is beautiful, and niche, and a great watch if you're looking for something that's out of the box.

It's also super colourful.

9. 'Evil Dead' Directed by Fede Alvarez

Yes, it's the remake. Yes, it's great and gory.

Evil Dead follows Mia, a drug addict trying to overcome her addiction by shutting herself in her childhood cabin with her brother and a select few friends. By a stroke of misfortune, one of the (dumb) friends finds a book of the undead and accidentally unleashes a demon that possesses Mia.

Not for the faint of heart, it's very gory.

8. 'Crimson Peak' Directed by Guillermo Del Toro

Weird. Very weird. Also, a Victorian-era horror film with a bit of incest? I mean, whatever you're into.

Crimson Peak follows Alice once she got out of Wonderland, and she marries Loki who has a weird sister who seems to be evil incarnate. The house is riddled with weird looking ghosts and a bunch of imagery.

7. 'Halloween' Directed by John Carpenter

In lieu of the sequel coming out, might as well watch one of the founders of the slasher genre.

Halloween is about a really tall guy in a mask who likes to kill babysitters with knives and stuff, and tries to go after main protagonist Laurie Strode fifteen years after he kills his sister in a fit of homicidal rage on Halloween night.

6. 'The Purge: Election Year' Directed by James DeManaco

Why not watch something that resembles the current political climate, right? But dramatized. And with a lot more murder.

Honestly, probably won't make sense unless you watch the second Purge since it stars a recurring character: but alas. This movie follows the election of the USA between a man who'd rather watch a bunch of people die for his amusement and a woman who wants to better the country. Sound familiar? It also has a bunch of religious imagery when it comes to murder, which...do with that what you will. (Pretty and politically concise, actually a good movie).

5. 'Carrie' Directed by Brian De Palma

In a world full of Carrie remakes we should all just abide by the original.

Honestly, pretty self explanatory but alas. Carrie follows a young girl named, well, Carrie. She has telekinetic powers that just randomly come in after she gets her period and she gets revenge on all the people who bully her after that iconic pig's blood scene at prom.

4. 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' Directed by Wes Craven

A classic. A true classic. He's coming for you.

Nightmare follows a bunch of teenagers being haunted in their dreams by a dead pedophile who tries to kill them.

3. 'Hush' Directed by Mike Flanagan

Actually seriously very unsettling. Lock your doors.

Hush is about a deaf and mute author who lives in seclusion. Essentially a game of cat and mouse, a man comes to her house and plays with her (and by that, I mean, tries to kill her but is kinda playful about it). Watch with headphones, it kills a lot of horror tropes, and lock your doors so no intruders come in.

2. 'Scream' Directed by Wes Craven

Scream is so meta that it accidentally becomes the rebirth of slasher movies.

Scream follows Sidney, a high school student who has to go through a bunch of murders a year after her mothers brutal killing. Mixing horror and comedy perfectly, Scream is an awesome one to watch.

1. 'Hereditary' Directed by Ari Aster

Creepy children, check. Occultism, check. A mother screaming, check.

Hereditary is about a mom of two named Annie who just loses her mother. Turns out, the mother is like, a cult leader or something. Annie is kind of a horrible mother but is also a supreme victim of circumstance and honestly, no summary is worth giving away any part of this spectacular film.

Honourable Mentions:The Conjuring series, The Descent, The VVitch, Jennifer's Body, A Quiet Place.

Happy screaming.
