10 Best Characters of The Scream Franchise

After 10 years of hiatus since Scream 4 (2011) came out, the Scream Franchise has came back stronger with the return of our favorite horror icon, Ghostface, in the new movie that came out on January 14 of this year.

With Scream 6 in the works and Halloween right around in the corner, this is the list of of the 10 Best Characters of the Scream Franchise.

10. Richie Kirsch

Starting this list in number 10, is one of the Ghostface Killers , of Scream (2022).

Richie Kirsch played by Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie Campbell in the Amazon Prime hit series, The Boys, who is a far "scream" from the character he plays on Scream (2022).

Richie at first sight seemed like a supportive boyfriend , who cares about his girlfriend wellbeing and wants what is best for her.

But as the movie progresses, you start seeing little hints of his true intentions and too most it came out as a shock ,when he reveals himself as Ghostface as he (literally) backstabs his girlfriend , who ironically is the daughter of one of the first Ghostface killers, Billy Loomis, who betrayed his former girlfriend, and our favorite final girl , Sidney Prescott.

9. Judy Hicks

Judy Hicks, played by Marley Shelton, who made her first appearance in the Scream franchise, on Scream 4 (2011), was a funny character that some people were very fond of.

With her funny quarrel with Gale Weathers over her admiration and crush on Dewey Riley and her lemon squares, she was also a single mother , raising a son, who sadly due to Ghostface using her maternal instincts against her, was killed with her son in close proximity and who, then joined her right after.

8. Tara Carpenter

Tara Carpenter, played by Jenna Ortega , who has been slowly rising to being an iconic Scream Queen due to her appearances on, X (2022) and The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020), and with her new role as Wednesday Addams on the Netflix series, Wednesday, of the same name, coming out on November 23.

Tara Carpenter became beloved by fans as one of the first , who have survived in a opening scene of a Scream movie. Using her smarts and wits to go against Ghostface, with just a broken leg and many stab wounds and as well in not being afraid to defend her sister from her best friend, who is one of the Ghostface killers.

7. Tatum Riley

Tatum Riley, played by Rose McGowan , who was Paige Matthews on the original Charmed series from 1998 .

Tatum is the younger sister of Dewey Riley and best friend to Sidney Prescott, who sadly met her end on the original Scream (1996), due to her being stuck and killed by a garage door being lifted. She was a loyal friend, (Take notes, Amber!) protecting Sidney and cheering her on , as well as, sarcastic, funny, and self-aware of horror movie tropes.

Tatum made a small appearance on Scream (2022) as we learned she was cremated, if you paused the movie, when you are in Dewey's house as a small easter egg.

6. Stu Macher

Stu Macher, played by Matthew Lillard, who has voiced and played Shaggy Rogers on the live action Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed (2004), as well as starred on the horror movie, Thirteen Ghosts (2001).

Stu is in first glance is seen as a really 'looney guy' as he loves to joke around and party, as well as being a really big fan , of Jamie Lee Curtis, as he has a lot of horror movies on his home of her ( obsessive, much?). It is later revealed, that he was the second Ghostface in Scream (1996) and his reason too kill was for fun and peer-pressure from Billy's end, he ironically, "died" being electrocuted by the tv , playing Halloween (1978) on screen.

He has a short easter egg on Scream (2022), if you paused the movie in where, Richie, is doing "researched" over the Stab franchise , as he is watching some movie reviewers on Youtube (they are an easter egg as well as they are real youtubers known as Dead Meat) , look to the side bar and below the fourth video it says 'Did the real-life Stu Macher survived? '

5. Billy Loomis

In 5th place, is the one who started it all, Billy Loomis, played by Skeet Ulrich , who has starred in The Craft (1996) , Riverdale (2017) and Escape Room (2018) .

Billy is seen as a sex-crazed teenage boy but who does respects his girlfriend boundaries and loves and cares for her (deja vu, anyone?).

But hints here and there, he is revealed to be one of the killers, whose has not only has kill almost everyone, who has been close to Sidney but killed her mother ,as well.

Many were shock with his reveal, especially , when he was ruled out in not being the killer and is shown in how manipulating , cunning and crazy, he is.

He made a cameo in Scream (2022) in his daughter's hallucinations.

4. Randy Meeks

Randy Meeks, played by Jamie Kennedy, not only was he the horror movie geek of the movie and the one who put on the rules but he was beloved by fans for being the comedic relief and how much of a fun person he was ,overall in Scream, Randy, sadly, with the outrage of many fans and the regret of the late Wes Craven, he was killed off on Scream 2 (1997)by Mrs. Loomis .

Randy came out in cameos on Scream (2022) of a memorial on his niece and nephew"s home but also came out on Scream 3 (2000) in a video tape.

3. Gale Weathers

Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox , who starred in Friends (1994) , Shining Vale (2022) and the rest of the Scream franchise is seen as a blood-thirsty reporter , who happens to be punched (rightly so) by Sidney Prescott due to bad blood between them and her exploitation of the killing on her books. Gale's development grew as she became a trusted ally and friend to Sidney (except with her on/off relationship with Dewey) but a legacy character, beloved by fans by her bravery and her set to doing the right thing.

2. Dewey Riley

Dewey Riley, played by David Arquette, who has starred in Eight-Legged Freaks (2022) , The 12-Hour Shift (2022) and the whole of Scream franchise as a legacy character, has gone against Ghostface , toe-to-toe , and has had nerve damage due to him being stabbed by Ghostface-a couple of times- as has being known to being the Sherriff Woodsboro has ever gotten.

Dewey, sadly , saw his brutal end in the hands of Ghostface by trying to shoot villain in the head , but got distracted by a call from Gale.

1.Sidney Prescott

Finally, in number one, the final girl, Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, who has starred in The Craft (1996),Skyscraper (2018) and is THE Final Girl of the franchise , a character, who has gone through so much and has lost so much as well from seeing family members murdered, friends dying, being backstabbed and stabbed , a couple of times but has always stay resilient, brave, loyal, and smart with the game of cat and mouse with Ghostface and who has, as well become the staple of the franchise.

These characters, good and bad, have been fan-favorites of the franchise, from the beginning till the end and continue to be as the new fans come to see this franchise's new chapter.
