Wolf Pack Review: "After Party"

Episode 6 kills off a key character, while the big bad werewolf's identity causes new theories

We are now in the home stretch of Wolf Pack's first season, and it took me the entire week to come down for the high I was on from Episode 5's big ending. Sure enough, Episode 6 literally picks up where the last episode ended: with the werewolf still at the party. All of the teens are in the house scared out of their minds, while Adrian is loudly dismissing any and all claims that are the opposite of what's really out there. Everett, under Luna's urging, starts to tell what's out there, with Adrian pleading with him to do so. However, Everett states that it's a bear out there, and that drove Adrian up the wall.

After we get a brief glimpse of Kristin Ramsey covering up killing the guard and giving an evil glance at the very flashlight she used in the murder, the scene shifts back to the house, where a long overdue confrontation between Phoebe and Blake takes place. Phoebe is upset over never hearing from Blake, who finally reveals why she no longer carries a phone. One day, Blake's father asked Blake to unlock her mother's phone, and once she did, there it was: evidence that she was cheating on him. An argument broke out, and it resulted in Blake and Danny being in foster care, and because of how badly her life was uprooted over a phone, she no longer carries one.

We later see one of my new favorite TV couples, Harlan and Cyrus, engaging in a makeout session before they spot the werewolf, after which Kristin emerges with gun in hand. After sending the boys away, Kristin attempts to reason with the werewolf, telling the creature that she can help them and that they could be taught to control it, doing so after firing a warning shot. The shot's heard by Garrett, who ended up face to face with the best before winging its arm.

Sadly, the beast would strike again and claime another victim: Phoebe. That sucks. Just when it looked like things between her and Blake were starting to improve, this happens. Don't get me wrong; Phoebe was absolutely detestable as the season progressed, and I was overjoyed when she was getting humiliated in the previous episode after all of the shit she's tried to pull. But to knock off Phoebe right after she and Blake were starting to heal together? Again, that sucks.

As for Cyrus, he's still under suspicion for the arson, and he had informed Harlan that he kept getting calls from a blocked number, and they were all the same--theories about how his father died. As it turned out, one firefighter who was at that fire all those years ago knows what happened, but when the quartet visited the man, named Malcolm, he attempts to brush them off until Luna finally says the magic word, "werewolf." Malcolm privately revealed that the group dealt with a grey wolf at that scene, and their attempts to put it down were futile, until Cyrus' father fired a shot right between the eyes. They thought they had killed the wolf. How wrong they were.

As Malcolm described, the wolf suddenly transformed into a large werewolf, and it was the fire that caused the metamorphosis. The crew was killed one by one, with Malcolm as the lone survivor, and that led the group to theorize that whoever set that fire did so with that very intent, to unleash a werewolf. Meanwhile, the group finds out that Cyrus was taken into custody by Kristin, and it leads to Harlan punching Garrett, which is followed by this:

Harlan, Luna, Everett, and Blake--all of them with blazing eyes and sharp teeth, growling at Garrett. Prisha enters with a rifle, after being revealed as having knowledge about werewolves, but it's not necessary, as Garrett manages to bring Harlan and the others back to normal. Seeing all four of them showing their teeth was quite surreal, but it doesn't end there, as Garrett delivers the biggest shocker of the series (so far).

So the big bad werewolf? It's not, repeat, not Harlan and Luna's father. A flashback to the moment Garrett winged the creature revealed the beast's identity, a teenage boy, who Everett recognized as the boy from earlier in the episode who couldn't remember his name. Everett, however, actually did have his name: Baron--and according to Garrett, he's Harlan and Luna's brother and a member of the pack. Wow! That threw me for a loop. I think that had to throw every viewer for a loop. We were all very certain that the werewolf was Harlan and Luna's birth father, but we were all wrong.

Even with this, I still say Kristin's connected to Baron somehow. A theory I had is that Baron is Kristin's believed-to-be-deceased son, which could make him a half-sibling of Harlan and Luna, and it could see Kristin collude with Baron in these killings. It's been a week since Kristin showed her evil colors, and from what I've seen in this episode, as well as the preview for the upcoming Episode 7, Kristin's villainy could be turned up a few notches after her heel turn in Episode 5.

Episode 6, "After Party" (a very fitting title), hit Paramout+ on March 2, 2023. There's just one episode left before the anticipated season finale where Sarah Michelle Gellar promised a huge development regarding Kristin. Even so, Episode 7 should give us some delicious twists as well.

I had the same thought about the werewolf being her son, as she said he died in a fire, why else would she be trying to help it!
