Why the Ending of 'Game of Thrones' Made Sense

No matter if you loved it or hated it, you can't deny that it all made sense in the end.

Dear Vocal Readers,

Oh, Game of Thrones, how its ending truly divided its fan-base. In my own personal opinion, I was left completely satisfied. Yes, I know many think it's one of the worst finales of all time but that's just my own opinion. I'm not here to discuss my own feelings on the ending; however, I'm here to explain to you how it all made sense.

One of the most highly contested moments of the season was the fall of Jaime Lannister. While he had been on a significant redemption arc, we saw him revert to his old ways in the end. Many believed this to be a cheap move by writers, but if you think about it, it's the only ending that truly suits him. Jaime was not a bad person, but there were many things he did in his life that were evil (let's not forget how he pushed a kid out of a tower!). The journey Jaime took us on is something that is relatable to those of us in the real world. Just because someone does a few good things does not mean they deserve a good ending or that they won't revert back to their old ways. People can change, but at the same time there are pieces of ourselves that can never be destroyed. At the end of the day he loved his sister and his actions throughout the entire series backed this up. He even said so himself that he wanted to die with the woman he loved, and that's exactly what he did.

Now, we move on to Dany. While I agree that the writers definitely rushed her character progression, it had been hinted at numerous times that she would or could go mad. Everyone knew that with her bloodline, there were increased chances of madness, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. Not to mention that she suffered plenty of heartbreaking losses during the final season that would justify her intense hatred for Cersei. If you lost so many of your beloved comrades, wouldn't you want revenge as well and think with your heart instead of your brain?

Moving on to Jon Snow. With the countless times characters, such as Tormund, mentioned that he belonged in the North, it seemed obvious that he would ultimately go back. Every single line of dialogue counts in a story, and they each hold meaning and possible foreshadowing. As for his killing of Dany, you needn't look further than the legend of Azor Ahai. In this tale, the "Prince That Was Promised" was said to have plunged his sword into the woman he loved. So come on, guys, this has been hinted at all along!

Shall we move on to Bran? Now look everyone, obviously Bran wasn't the most liked character. But his eventual crowning makes total sense! He knows the history of the nation and has seen the previous mistakes of mankind. He is the most intelligent person in the world, and has no personal bias. He makes the perfect king and it makes sense as to why the Night King wanted him dead so badly. Bran would bring about peace to the world, and while we don't know the Night King's true motives, he clearly saw the importance of Bran's character.

While there are many more ways in which I can convince you the ending made total sense, I'll leave you with those major points. Was the finale rushed? Of course it was. But you can't be mad at the ending, because almost everything had been hinted at and we should have seen the signs staring us straight in the face. For those who booed Nikolaj Coster-Waldau at Comic-Con for defending Jaime's death, I highly disgust you. Punishing the actors for how the show ended makes absolutely no sense and it is extremely disrespectful. This is their job, and they can't change the show's writing. The show ended how it ended and everyone has to accept this. There is no way that everyone will be left satisfied by a series finale, but there is no need to disrespect and spit on those who tried their best and did their jobs.

Sincerely from my Game of Thrones-loving mind,

Kacie
