Why Joey and Rachel From Friends Need To Be Together

My reasons for Joey and Rachel should have been the end game.

As I re-watch Friends for the billionth time. I see increasingly why Rachel and Joey are meant to be together.

First let us get into why Ross was not and is not the best person, to be in a relationship with Rachel. Ross as much as a wonderful friend he could be a time did not seem to always be her boyfriend. For one thing, he held on to grunges about Rachel and himself being on a break. He also never really supported Rachel with her career in fashion, he mostly made fun of her for her career choice, when he knew Rachel loved her career and fashion overall. Ross put Rachel on a pedestal, he never truly saw her flaws when he had a crush on her. Plus Ross and Rachel have nothing in common, but Monica really. He was also a toxic boyfriend, he was always jealous when she worked with other males. They would argue about this a lot in their relationship.

Whereas with Joey; Rachel and Joey had lots of stuff in common, from soap operas because Joey was a soap opera actor and Rachel watched soap operas, she was a huge soap opera fan. Not to mention they had jokes in common, and they always were there whenever someone got their heart broken. Rachel would even make pancakes for Joey. Joey and Rachel are also so supportive of each other’s careers when Joey got nominated for a Soapy, and Rachel got Joey into the male bag. They could even freely make fun of each other and express their deepest feelings and thoughts to each other. Especially when it came to Rachel’s pregnancy, Joey took Rachel out on dates because Rachel could not date anyone, being single and pregnant. Joey really stepped up to take care of Rachel when she felt so lonely well being pregnant, taking her to the hospital, telling her to go live with Ross when Ross felt left out. Rachel and Joey were always able to be themselves around one another, even more so well being roommates. Joey even welcomed Rachel back in to live with him, when living with Ross became extremely confusing. He helped Emma, even though he did not want to share food or his stuffed toy. When they even dated for a week, as much trouble as it was. It was still the healthiest relationship the two of them has ever been in, and as much as Joey did worship Rachel, he was also realistic about her as well. Joey really did not even mind that Ross was dating his ex-girlfriend, but it was difficult for Joey when Ross was not okay with Rachel and him being together. That is why Rachel and Joey's self-sabotaged their romantic relationship in the end, because Ross was never going to be okay with Rachel and Joey, let alone have Joey as Emma’s stepfather. Ross would never let anyone get too close to Rachel because he thought he was the only right person for her. Which is an extremely toxic habit in any relationship. He made Rachel give up Paris for him. Ross had to always be the gut for Rachel, he just could not let her be happy in a healthy relationship with Joey.

If Joey and Rachel did end up together, they would have been like Monica and Chandler, with a deep friendship foundation, and a romantic relationship secondary. Joey would have also been on board with Emma’s male babysitter, because Joey also found the male babysitter to be so interesting, and Joey learned a lot from him. Rachel and Joey would have supported each other’s career choices, and Joey would have gone to Paris with Rachel rather than asking her to leave her dream career. Joey would have chosen to be a stay-at-home dad with Emma rather than go look for acting in Paris, France because Joey was not good a French, but he would have been liking to make friends in Paris, and knowing Joey those people would be open to helping him figure out his way around Paris and with the language. He would have play dates with Emma and other parents he meet in Paris and I am sure he would not even have minded going back and forth to New York City and Paris to drop off Emma to Ross because it would have given Joey a chance to visit Chandler, and even go on a few acting auditions. Joey also would have never come in between the father and daughter relationship of Emma and Ross, he would have always happily taken a back seat as a stepfather and friend to Emma. Therefore I think if there was a re-due Friends in this modern world of today. We would have preferred to see Joey and Rachel's lives make sense for now. Rather than when the show was created in the 90s and millennium, we did not know that Ross and Rachel were in a toxic relationship. We only rooted for them because we are the ‘It Couple.’ As we learned more about relationships and is toxic and healthy habits of them, we can easily see when a couple like Rachel and Joey truly belong together. Even if we did not get to see it or ever will see it be redone with Rachel and Joey as the end game. It is always fun to imagine how much better it would have been when Rachel and Joey are together even in a fantasy world.

I will never give up on watching Friends or being a Friends lover. The show is a classic nostalgic show, even if it does not happen to fit into today’s world. It is always worth going back to watching Friends. There will always be a comfort in Friends that other shows just do not have anymore. Plus just seeing how young the cast was just brings back memories of my own childhood. It is always nice to bring back that laughter again.

We all have our views of how the show could or should have turned out, and I love hearing other people's views on Friends, because, at the end of the day, Friends really does just bring us closer together, in a throwback 90s kind of way.

Agree with you. I hated the Ross and Rachel relationship. He's such a dweeb.
