Why is Monkey Man banned in India?

Monkey Man Movie Controversy Explained

Guys I am pretty sure many of you were very excited for the movie Monkey Man coming this month, but currently this movie has been banned for Indian cinema. Now I will tell you why, how, and when. Just stay connected.

Well, ever since the trailer for Monkey Man came out, the hype for it has reached its peak. Be it the amazing action sequences or cinematography, everything has attracted the attention of the audience, and that is why the hype of Monkey Man has increased a lot.

Even in the Indian market, the demand for this movie was very high, and people were very excited to watch it in cinema houses, but many things happened, due to which, for now, this movie has been banned in India.

The Monkey Man movie was supposed to come out on April 5 in America. But in India, the CBSE board said no to it. They didn't give it a certificate.

There are many reasons behind this:

The first one is that it is being told that there is extreme violence in the movie. Well, this excuse of violence has been completely exposed because nowadays even Bollywood is coming up with such violent content that is released in theaters, giving it an A rating.

Another reason the CBSE board didn't like the Monkey Man movie is because of a character named Sita, who is a prostitute in the film. They thought her name was too similar to Sita Mata, a goddess in Hindu stories, and that could offend people.

Also, some negative characters in the movie have religious connections, which the board thought might cause trouble and upset some groups.

The third reason why the CBSE rejected the Monkey Man movie is because of its portrayal of the government. In the movie, there are villainous characters who are involved with the government in some illegal activities, suggesting corruption within the current administration.

This is the reason why CBSE told them that this picture would not be released in India.

Monkey Man Movie Release Date in India

Now these film makers will have to change many things, and only then can Monkey Man be released in India. Apart from this, one more thing I forgot to say is that there are many dialogues that hurt religious sentiments.

The CBSE has made it clear to the creators of Monkey Man that they must make changes to the film. Only if the CBSE approves of these changes will Monkey Man have a chance of being released in India. As of now, since the movie hasn't received any certificates, its release in India remains banned.

This movie is going to be re-edited. They're cutting out parts and adding new voices in some places. Apart from this, when this movie goes to CBSE again, maybe this movie will come to Indian cinemas on April 19.

Or if there is any further delay, then we will get to see this movie in cinemas on April 26th.

Well, it was good to see that CBSE took some action, but I did not understand one thing: where were these people missing when a picture like Adipursh came into the market?

I don't think Monkey Man is going to show garbage like Adipursh.

Adipursh had literally ruined Ramayan; Monkey Man is still kind of fictional stuff.

So guys, this was the decision that I had to make with all of you. I hope you have understood my point. For now, Monkey Man is banned in India. Maybe this movie will be seen in cinemas on April 19th or 26th.

By the way, please share with me how excited you all are about Monkey Man.

It's not about being ahead of time or some irrelevant stuff!! It's about the effect the movie is gonna cause!! Some of my friends who are overseas and watched the movie told me that there were scenes which included some stuff about "Violence against Muslims and Transgenders in India"!! I wonder if it's really a coincidence that just after 3 months of Ayodha's reconstruction and Babri Masjid's destruction the movie got released and somehow potrays very similar topics in a very distorting way? Not to mention odd naming of Sita for a prostitute's character. BBC and CNN mentioning illegal collapse of Babri Masjid by Indian Government and now a Movie with themes depicting the current Government as bad and evil and also at the same time disrespecting Ramayana, a timeless Epic!! And why are you comparing this movie with Adipurush? Yes, Adipurush was bad, very bad but atleast they did not messed up Rama, Hanuman or showed a character named Sita as a prostitute!! Tbf the only thing Adipurush messed up is VFX and depiction of Ravana!! If Ravan was depicted as it is, then the movie would have been atleast became a Hit!! Your reasoning for defending the movie is very questionable!!

  • Hey guys, I messed up. I mentioned the wrong board. I said CBSE instead of CBFC. I've told the VOCAL team, and they'll fix it. I'm really sorry about that. Please forgive me. I'll be more careful next time. Thanks for understanding.

Bro what are you even writing? CBSE is an educational board and has got nothing to do with films. In fact to not make a fool of myself, I verified. The film board is CBFC. Kindly check your information before posting.

Sita name is not used in any Hindu society for your information, in India. Look around India and this name will only be found in Nepali society, that too very rarely. Reasons for this can be asked to your Grannys or moms, Mr. Ayush.

I am a supporter of the present Indian Govt. I have been before you were even born probably. I could never make myself to support Congress ever. Now this movie is depicting Hanuman in an irreverential way I suppose. But, hopefully, not in a disrespectful way. And I think this movie is ahead of its time for obvious reasons. The Indians have just got their foothold back in Ayodhya and having the time of their lives. This movie might not work even if it is released on time in India. Dissent and disagreements are one of the cornerstones of democracy. People do know of it. But in the present time, nobody is in the mood to hear Dev Patel out. Maybe a decade or two from today they will be more accepting. Sita being a Nepalese from Nepal, did not need to have been shown as a prostitute or should have been named Janaki or Vaidehi or something else. But just now the deification of Sita has caught on the Psyche of India. Its just like telling us Mother Teresa or Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu or Mary or Mary Magdalene to be a name of a particular prostitute which might be the story of the life of the heroine thus named. Or for that matter why not Ayesha or Khadija or Safiya or Habiba be the names of such a person? Why only Sita? Just because she is supposed to be from Nepal and most prostitutes are from Nepal? Does Dev Patel want to say that?
