Why Eric Forman Is "a Dumbass"

Eric does not deserve Donna

That 70's show

Recently, I needed a new sitcom in my life. Friends? I have already memorized most episodes and all the lines from the show, so I started binge watching That 70's Show. It is a show about a bunch of teenagers in the 70s and their weird high school adventures. I have not watched an episode since it was last aired on television. After recently starting to rewatch it, I realized Eric Forman is indeed, as Red puts it, "a dumbass." He does so many wrong things in his relationship that it is astounding that Donna had put up with it for so long. In the episode titled "Dine and Dash," Kelso offers to pay for everyone's dinner—at least that's what was understood. However, it was Kelso that offered, and in reality he was planning a dine and dash. The first mistake Eric made was that he trusted Kelso of all people to get the money and come back. Yup. Trusted the wrong guy.

In the episode "Radio Daze," Eric gets jealous to the point where Donna should have broken up with him. She says that she does not have a boyfriend because her supervisor told her to, and immediately Eric gets all offended, which can be understandable because if you heard someone you love said they were not with you it hurts. Then, Eric imagines a very unrealistic event that happens, which basically makes him an untrustworthy boyfriend. He does not trust her and that is a problem. Eric should trust Donna; they have been together long enough to know. Then, he does not even apologize right away.

In the episode "Donna's Panties," Donna should have dumped him. Eric pulls down her pants in front of all his and her friends and laughs about it when she was wearing high waist panties, and then Eric does not realize anything wrong with what he did until she storms off. It is humiliating to have your pants pulled down in front of all your friends. He also does not defend her appropriately, he says " none of that when Donna comes" instead of "guys knock it off". Then, the idiot that Eric is he gets her slutty underwear as a joke. That deserves a huge slap in the face and a break up on top of that. Eric does not even feel bad for doing it; he makes a big joke out of the situation, which is badly handled. Everyone in the world knows that when a woman says she's fine, it means that she is NOT fine. It's just an easy way to brush off the incident that happened, and then we will bring it up in a fight. Eric then says "apology accepted". Donna then is the bigger person and tells him that she will yell at him whenever he does something wrong. She just lets him get away with it.

In "Kitty's Birthday," Eric is ungrateful that his mom made what she calls "Mandwich," which are almost like sloppy joes. She made them from scratch, and then he says "Mandwich again." His mom does a lot for him, and he forgets her birthday and then when it comes to make up for it he is ungrateful again to go square dancing after forgetting his moms birthday.

Those episodes are all close together like almost every other episode Eric is screwing up. It is not like the episodes are in different seasons. Eric Forman is in fact a "dumbass," as his father puts it.
