Why do Fans Ship a Disturbing Relationship in House of the Dragon?

Why are people supporting a relationship that is extremely controversial?

One of the things that bother me about House of the Dragon is the disturbing marriages we get in the show. Similar to Game of Thrones when it came to a brother and sister relationship, we are now focusing on an uncle and niece who get married. This relationship right from the beginning was so disturbing and hard to watch. She was only seventeen when they first met, which made their marriage even worse.

While I'm aware that this relationship is disturbing in so many ways, there are some fans out there who don't view this marriage in that way.

It should be viewed in a disturbing way, but for some strange and eerie reason, some fans don't really see it.

There are fans out there who actually support the relationship.

They are cheering for this 'power couple, who happens to be uncle and niece. Fans even drew fanart of these characters, which made it so much worse for me as a viewer.

My question toward these fans is...why?

Or what the hell is wrong with them?

Why are they supporting something that is incredibly disturbing on so many levels? This is not a couple to root for. They are related. The Targaryen family is known for marrying their own family members, a trait that makes these characters very hard to root for.

I'm a fan of Daemon and Rhaenyra, but every time they share a 'sweet moment,' I struggle to watch. I have noticed that the show has avoided Rhaenyra's character referring to him as her uncle, which was only mentioned back in the first season. Either fans have forgotten that they are related, or the writers themselves are purposely testing their audience.

This also happened with another show, but in a completely different viewpoint.

The television show called You that recently ended on Netflix, also consisted of fans that were scaring the crap out of me. The storyline followed a serial killer as the main character, but for some reason, fans were defending his actions. They were straight up cheering for him whenever he killed someone, and yes, he killed bad people, but murder is still wrong, and there were fans that were supporting his actions...

Even the actor who played the serial killer in the show told his fans to stop supporting his character at a convention, but he was met with cheers instead from the fans. This freaked me out, and I'm sure that the actor felt the same way. This was baffling to me, how people were willing to support a monster in a show that was killing people.

Fans are always the worst part of any franchise.

I'm not saying that all fans are terrible, but a lot of them are just insane. People who are supporting an uncle and niece in House of the Dragon, calling it a loving relationship, are scary.

How fans are disgusted with a son kissing his mother in the show but are alright with an uncle and a niece marriage...makes absolutely no sense to me. It's sick, no matter how some fans look at it.

House of the Dragon is a great show, but no one should be supporting Daemon and Rhaenyra's marriage. And yes, I get that the show is fictional, including the characters, but it's creepy if fans out there are loving this relationship.

I don't normally like to go after fans, but in this case, I don't get what the hell is wrong with them. Don't support this marriage. They are related, and it's wrong.

It's not romantic.

This relationship should scare anyone.

That is the true intention that this relationship should give fans.
