Why Daredevil is the Saviour of the MCU

We’re going to be seeing a lot more of Matt Murdock

From several recent announcements from Marvel, it looks like we are going to be seeing a lot more of the character of Daredevil in the next few years and I believe this is by design. It’s no secret that the Netflix Daredevil television series was the most popular of the bunch and was brought to life brilliantly by actor Charlie Cox. The series debuted in 2015 and had a three-season run spanning 39 episodes before being cancelled along with all of the other Netflix shows back in 2018. Looking back now we can see that was because Marvel was planning to redo their shows to tie much more closely to the MCU.

Now two thirds into 2022 we can easily say that the shows Marvel has produced themselves can be classed as hits and misses, this is where I believe Daredevil will now fit into a new plan for Marvel television. Fans were pleasantly surprised to see Charlie Cox once again play the role of blind lawyer Matt Murdock in 2021’s Spider-Man: Now Way Home even if just for a cameo role. To follow on from this we know Daredevil will appear in She-Hulk, Echo, a new animated Spider-Man show called Freshman Year as well as getting his own series and most likely a soft reboot for the character.

I believe going forward Daredevil will play a kind of Nick Fury role for Marvel TV, being a connection between numerous shows and maybe even movies, who would be against a Spider-Man/Daredevil crossover movie? These appearances will also create a multi-show story arc, something most likely started by the Hawkeye show, seeing as that introduced this new MCU version of Kingpin and will carry on over through references in She-Hulk, Echo and potentially culminating in his own show. This arc will most likely be Daredevil once again going up against the Kingpin played by Vincent D’Onofrio who also reprises his role from the original Daredevil show and has also been confirmed to appear in Echo & Daredevil: Born Again.

I believe this to be true seeing as they’ve made sure to announce we’re getting lots of Daredevil, he’s even in the trailer for She-Hulk and his own series will have an 18-episode first season, hats three times all the other Marvel Shows so far! Its clear Marvel is backing a lot behind the character.

It is my prediction right now that the Daredevil; series will be a soft reboot of the character and the previous 3 seasons where everything that happened in the show is canon but perhaps didn’t happen exactly as shown. I also believe the show will be a back door for Marvel to bring in all the aspects that worked from the Netflix shows while leaving the rest behind. For example, I wouldn’t be overly surprised if we were to get cameos from Frank Castle, The Punisher or Luke Cage. This 18-episode first season will result in branching shows and a new era for Marvel television.

But it doesn’t have to end there, Daredevil could easily star in other team-up shows or movies, such as Secret Wars or if they decided to give The Defenders another try or even a version of the Midnight Suns which could incorporate characters such as Moon Knight & Blade.

Yes, it’s still early days as of yet but what other character is the MCU has had announcements where the audience has been told exactly when and where they will appear? Daredevil is Marvels way to boost views and ratings and I for once am excited to see what they do with the character and hope they can keep the same kind of volatile action and grit the original run had.
