The fabulous ladies of Season 12

Rupaul's Drag Race, a sacred competition to the LGBTQ+ community. I am a huge fan of this competition and have watched every season. And I am assuming if you are reading this, you are also a fan of Drag Race. Now, I would like to begin by saying season 12 had some of the most talented Queens! All of them did fantastic with the hard challenges that were thrown their way. Each of them had very unique and different personalities and styles which is crucial to this competition.

Let's start to dive in on my 'fan theory' on why Jaida Essence Hall won, and who I think really should have won the competition. Please note, I am not trying to take away from what she did this competition, Jaida really put in the time and effort to do her best in all challenges and rose up for each occasion. But with that being said, other queens did better in the challenges and did better lip syncs for the finale.

We will start with Crystal Method. Crystal had an extremely rocky start, she was insecure and unsure of herself but that quickly took a turn for the better! Crystal gained confidence in who she was and all her little quirks and had the fans fall in love with her. Her unique sense of fashion and kind heart made it easy for the fans and cast to connect with her. She exceeded in the later challenges by playing up the comedy. Not to mention her El DeBarge mullet that Rupaul could not stop talking about. Crystal embodied uniqueness and was a star of the season. Had she not been in the top three, I think she could have won Miss Congeniality.

Miss Gigi Goode was iconic to say the least. From day one her looks were jaw dropping. And she didn't just stop there! This fashion queen surprised everyone with a sense of humour and intellect. This chick won a total of four main challenges and did not snatch the crown? She was a killer lyricist, an amazing Madonna impersonator and could throw a garment together just like that. I know a vast majority of us were surprised that she didn't take the crown. She was arguably one of the most memorable queens out there.

Now we can get to the crowned queen herself, Miss Jaida Essence Hall. I won't lie to you, Jaida only stood out to me in the politics challenge with her "Look over there!" bit. It was absolutely hilarious so kudos to her for coming up with that. Jaida definitely also wowed us with her beauty and poise like a typical pageant queen (no shade pageant queens are BEAUTIFUL). However, I think Jaida skated by in this competition. She was put to the test once in her lip sync for her life against Heidi, and she nailed it! But other than those two things, Jaida was landing top middle of the pack for me.

These three undoubtedly deserved to be in the top three. All had killer performances and wooed the crowd. Crystal's first performance to the song "I'm like a Bird" was hilarious and outstandingly creative. She really proved herself to be the quirky queen of this season. Gigi's lip sync was done fairly well, her background art was gorgeous and so was her costume. However, she really just stood there but her performance was still done very well. Jaida put on a show for us in her living room. She did all the tricks a drag queen could possibly do. I was disappointed after seeing the creativity of the first two, only to have Jaida perform in said living room. Her dancing was amazing but the whole set up lacked a certain excitement to it.

For the final lip sync between the three of them, my eyes did not leave Gigi for a second! She was captivating! Jaida had, once again, incredible dance moves and Crystal was being her eccentric self. And when Jaida won, my jaw dropped. I was very confused! I really believe that Gigi Goode deserved to win this season based upon her track record, fan base and lip sync. But then I started to think about the win just a little bit more.

I may sound a bit crazy, but I think Rupaul was already going to chose Jaida from the start of the finale. Hear me out, who won the previous year? Yvie Oddly. And what category of Drag Queen does she fit into? The Unconventional Queens! Who else is in that category? Crystal Method. Ru did not want to have two similar queens back to back so logically, he cut out Crystal. Then comes Gigi the 'fashion queen'. You know who else is a 'fashion queen'? Aquaria. Who was the winner of season ten. I think Ru did not want repeats of the last two years so he turned to the last Queen left. Jaida Essence Hall. There hasn't been a pageant queen crowned in years. Hence why Jaida was crowned.

And there you have it folks. Who should have really won drag race? Gigi Goode. Jaida would have been a lovely first alternate. Once again, no shade to any of these ladies (except for Sherry Pie). There's my theory, take it as you see it!
