Who Could Play Captain Marvel Besides Fan Favorites?
While Captain America: Civil War started us off in a spectacular way, there are still a ton of questions that need to be answered, namely: who will play the lead in Marvel's first solo female movie, Captain Marvel?
With Phase 3 just beginning, fans are looking forward to the MCU's Phase 3 additions with Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in the mix. While Captain America: Civil War started us off in a spectacular way, there are still a ton of questions that need to be answered, namely: who will play the lead in Marvel's first solo female movie, Captain Marvel?
With fan favorites such as Katheryn Winnick, Yvonne Strahovski, and Emily Blunt as some of the names being thrown around, this announcement is probably way, way off, being that the movie won't come out until March of 2019. So, I thought I would have a bit of fun and name some actresses that fans might be overlooking who deserve a fair shot at the role of Carol Danvers. I've been serious about this for quite a while now, so I'm looking forward to Marvel's eventual announcement.
Do you think it could it be one of these 5 actresses?
You would think this would be an obvious choice, though it seem that most people haven't thought of her as Captain Marvel. Biel has an impressive resume, acting in almost every genre, but perhaps most notably in movies such as Blade: Trinity (2004), Total Recall (2012), and Bleeding Heart (2015). Biel has proven to have the physicality to play a physically demanding role such as Captain Marvel. Whether or not she is cast as Carol Danvers, there are a plethora of other roles Biel could play in the MCU (literally, any other heroine; how has this not happened yet?) and I'd love to see her added to Marvel's arsenal of actors soon.
An up-and-coming Australian actress that could serve well under the mantle of Captain Marvel, you might recognize Cornish from films such as Limitless (2011), Suckerpunch (2011), or Seven Psychopaths (2012). While she wouldn't be my first choice, Cornish is a solid actress that could bring much to the role of Captain Marvel.
With rumors already swirling that she's in talks for the role, Chastain would make a wonderful addition to Marvel's all-star line up, having worked on popular films such as Zero Dark Thirty (2012), Interstellar (2014), and The Martian (2015). Chastain looks to have an extremely full schedule leading up through 2017, so if Marvel does end up wanting her let's hope they sign her soon.
Having played roles in projects such as Alias (2001), Criminal Minds (2005), The Amityville Horror (2005), G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and Conan the Barbarian (2011), she most recently played the lead role of Kiera Cameron on the Canadian science fiction series Continuum (2012) and proved herself worthy of that lead role. Both physically capable of pulling off fight scenes and confident enough for Carol Danvers, Nichols could be a great pick for Marvel's Captain Marvel.
Torv is known for The Secret Life of Us (2001), Heavenly Sword (2007), and most recently, Fringe (2008-2013), where she played FBI special agent Olivia Dunham. After watching her on Fringe, I have no doubt she would make a fantastic Carol Danvers and Captain Marvel. One of the hardest parts of casting any comic character is the actor's ability to play both roles (no matter how separate that character's "secret identity" may or may not be). With an unreserved confidence and genuine ability for communicating emotional tension, Torv is undoubtedly my top pick to play Captain Marvel.
