Comic book legend Stan Lee is now a household name. The mastermind behind countless Marvel properties, Lee's career has moved in an unexpected direction. Nowadays, he's best known for repeated cameos in Marvel movies. Those all came to a head in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which revealed that Lee was actually playing the same cosmic being, a mysterious 'Watcher's Informant.'
With so many Marvel movies in the works, the House of Ideas has adopted a new approach to filming Stan the Man's cameos, filming multiple appearances at once. Lee recently held a panel with his personal manager at Wizard World Nashville, and there they revealed that Lee's already filmed his next five Marvel cameos!
"What we can say about Avengers: Infinity War is that he filmed both parts, one and two. We did Ant-Man, we did Black Panther. We did Thor too."
We already knew about some of these. Back in 2016, we learned that Marvel Studios had flown Lee down for a single day, and filmed no less than four cameos in succession. Those included Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and presumably Thor: Ragnarok. It sounds as though Lee recently headed down to Atlanta to film another batch of four; #InfinityWar, #Avengers4, #BlackPanther, and #AntManAndTheWasp. It's a smart approach, and it means Lee's MCU cameos are now covered all the way up to 2019!
But Stan's Still Going To Be Busy
Of course, that doesn't mean Lee won't be filming more cameos before 2019. Fox has no less than three X-Men movies in the works next year, and they recently booked dates for unknown Marvel films all the way up to 2021. Lee has a history of appearing in Fox's X-Men films too; the most poignant of which was in X-Men: Apocalypse. That cameo featured both Lee and his wife Joan, who sadly passed away this year. The industry legend is also likely to make cameos in Sony's upcoming movies, Venom and Silver & Black.
As if that wasn't a busy enough schedule, we already know that Lee will be appearing in the X-Men-inspired TV series The Gifted too. That was the fourth collaboration between Lee and director Bryan Singer, which was filmed back in April. Meanwhile, we've also learned that Lee has agreed to cameo in Jason Mewes's upcoming project, Madness and the Method, which Mewes hopes to submit to Sundance. The two have been friends for a while now, a fact that still leaves Mewes pretty stunned.
#StanLee is a true comic book legend, and fans will be delighted to hear that his film career shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon! His cameos have brought joy to fans all over the world, and you can definitely tell that Lee himself absolutely loves his newfound film career.
There's a beautiful irony to all of this too. Back in the '70s and '80s, Lee spent a great deal of time acting as Marvel's ambassador to Hollywood, trying to generate interest in #Marvel movies. Now, in the golden age of superhero films, Stan Lee's stepped on to the big screen himself, becoming a famous Hollywood actor of sorts in his own right.
