What will happen to Kim Wexler in the last season of "Better Call Saul"?

The latest season of Better Call Saul reached new high levels, bringing the tension near to the final climax of the show. The introduction of characters like Gustavo Fring and "Lalo Salamanca" added those Breaking Bad vibes that were already so successful in pleasing the audience, as those dynamics were introduced into the spin-off as well. After five seasons, the main plots of the show are all coming together for the grand finale: from Lalo looking for his revenge on Gus and Varga after a shocking survival to the attack on him organized by Fring himself, to Kim finally accepting and embracing her dark side.

Since the time Kim and Jimmy were perpetrating "small" scams to reach their goals (or just to have some fun, let's be honest), she was well aware that she was attracted to this dark inside of her, despite trying to convince herself that she was, in the end, a good person on good and innocent people's side. That's why she tries to slide right into pro-bono jobs, to try to help people that were in extreme need and to have some kind of redemption, after working for a large heartless company such as Mesa Verde.

The truth is, though, she can't repulse this far voice inside of her that pushes her towards the illegal side: she can't repulse Jimmy and the love she has for him. No matter what Jimmy does, no matter how nasty, dangerous and crazy he can get, Kim always forgets everything and manages to forgive him. They stood side by side until now, when Kim leaves her good side behind and lets herself go, while Jimmy's last glance in season 5 lets us assume that he feels guilty and responsible for the drastic change inside Kim.

The relationship between Jimmy and Kim, together with their highs and lows, has always been one of the crucial points of the shows, and their dynamics as a duo make the series even more special: the dialogues between the two, their interactions, the unspoken words, the secrets. Every single viewer can do nothing but relate and empathize with them, and be dramatically pulled into their world. The question we are all asking ourselves now is: is Kim alive during the events of Breaking Bad? What happens between the two?

One of the major theories is that Kim is eventually going to die during the last season of Better Call Saul, but honestly I don't see that happening. Jimmy would never forgive himself if Kim is going to end up dead because of his actions and his involvement with Lalo and with Gus: he wouldn't be able to live with himself, he wouldn't be the Saul we know during Breaking Bad. Jimmy would be completely broken by this and probably would never be a lawyer again. Bob Odenkirk himself believes this won't happen, as he says in a Rotten Tomatoes interview:

I assume something big goes wrong, [...] and I am seriously talking as a fan, I don't think that Saul Goodman, in Breaking Bad, is going home to Kim Wexler. I dread what could happen to her. But if something really tragic happens, I don't see how he could go on. It would be something more tragic if she and he were separated and still carrying on in Albuquerque.

This was Bob Odenkirk speaking honestly as a fan not knowing what could possibly could happen to Kim (or just pretending to not know...), and this could be matched with other statements from Rhea Seehorn, who believes that it would be too "simple" getting rid of her just by killing her character off. Something big goes definitely wrong, the question is what and how? It's hard to believe that the two of them just break up, after going through so much together, the love that they feel for each other is too strong to just end up their relationship. So here's a theory of mine that could be extremely dramatic.

What if the only way for Kim to be safe would be for her to disappear completely, change her life, name and everything related to her past life? It wouldn't be something fresh within the world of Breaking Bad, as Walter White and the same Jimmy will end up taking this road further ahead. But let's think about this: Jimmy knows that the Mexican Cartel will always be out there, and in his mind this would be the only extreme solution. The only way to protect Kim and save her life. It would definitely be something that Jimmy would do, despite the devastating thought of never being able to see her again. It would be something linear and definitely something we already saw before but, as Breaking Bad finale showed us, Vince cares more about being coherent with the plots and the character than trying to squeeze in something that shocks the audience but that it's not in line with what we have been shown so far. Even though Kim would never agree to this, Jimmy might be able to put up the ultimate scam to send her away: a sort of love sacrifice towards the love of his life. Like this Kim could be able to understand what Jimmy was willing to sacrifice to save her and maybe accept it, even if it would hurt so much. For them, and for all of us.

The final season of Better Call Saul will feature several tense and dramatic moments, that's for sure. We can't know what's going to happen to Kim, but we are sure of one thing: we are going to end up heartbroken one way or the other, because Kim Wexler is not in Breaking Bad.
