Are we ready for Season 5?

Although the next season isn’t beginning until October, REJOICE! For there is always San Diego Comic-Con to be relied on to give us tasters for upcoming seasons of our favourite shows. For the next season of The Flash, we got a doozy! So let’s get detecting on those valuable pieces of information!

Chris Klein is playing the big bad.

Cicada is coming.

Yes, our favourite jock from American Pie is playing our main villain this season. As Grant Gustin said in an earlier interview before the casting was announced, it’s an interesting casting choice.

The only turn to evil I have seen Klein take is as Ryan Reynolds’ love rival in Just Friends. Not enough to get him ranked as a superhero villain of course, however Reynolds himself now plays a superhero, two if you’re counting Green Lantern BUT I DIGRESS!!!

Klein is playing Cicada, the longly rumoured villain for the season. He is described as a blue collared family man whose family is ripped apart by metahumans and is now seeking revenge. It’s an interesting thing to have seeings as we’re taking a relatively normal human being and shaping them into a big bad. I look forward to the flashback episode centered on finding out his origins (which we will of course get).

Nora is a daddy’s girl.

What’s the reason, Nora?

The big inclusion for this season is Nora West-Allen! The child of Barry and Iris from thirty years in the future! Mind boggling! From what the cast have been saying, and from what eagle eyed fans have noticed, Nora is a great admirer of her father. In the moments of last season when Nora popped up, she was awestruck in meeting Barry, and pretty much avoided meeting Iris.

This already tells us that Nora has a mummy issue or two, so it helps that theory even more when the cast themselves note that it’s ironic. Iris will reportedly instantly click with her daughter whilst Barry will be too concerned with the usual "we don’t know you, how can we trust you?" dilemma that they have been taught a lesson or two about the hard way. It’ll be interesting to find out why Nora has such a grudge against her mother.

Ralph and Cisco will join forces.

...Just not in the way that you expect.

When asked what the situation will be for Cisco and Ralph in terms of finding love, especially with Cisco being recently single, the cast weighed in.

Dibny will reportedly take Cisco under his wing and help him in talking to the ladies. With disastrous consequences? HEY! PROBABLY!

Grodd V Shark: Dawn of the Rogues

Stand aside Godzilla Vs Kong.

We were given a little hint that Grodd and King Shark could be going toe to toe or alligning together in the upcoming season. Excited? Yeah, I expected so.

HOOOOOOWEVER! It’ll be quite the wait. This crossover will reportedly not happen (if it does) until the second half of the season so don’t be expecting this until some time in 2019.

Nora is stuck.

“Daddy? Can I catch a lift to the future?”

Obviously, they needed a reason to keep Nora around as a series regular? Best way for a time travelling, second generation speedster? Well you make her be trapped somewhere in the timeline! You dummies! Nora will reportedly have made a bad move and it will impact the rest of the season, even her ability to time travel maybe? Or has she done something that she feels she has to solve herself and being in 2018 is the answer to doing so. Curiouser and curiouser.

Two cast members are directing!

More involved than ever!

This is more of a nice celebration than anything; our resident actors, Danielle Panabaker and Tom Cavanagh, will both be directing episodes this season!

Panabaker makes her directorial debut with the show, but she will be directing Episode 18, so she has a while off before the cameras start rolling on her episode. However, Cavanagh, an experienced director on the show, will be directing this years crossover episode. But, there’s more to it. The crossover episode will TRIPLE UP as the shows midseason finale AND the shows 100th episode. So in basic terms, Cavanagh has quite the job with his episode.

What is really interesting about this episode is the crossover has never been the midseason finale for the show. We know the crossover will at least partially be set in Gotham City and introduce Batwoman, so how they do all of that and also give us a cool cliffhanger to hold onto until the new year? Whilst also celebrating 100 episodes? Good luck to you, Team Flash.

It’s going to be an interesting episode. I am really pumped for what is being geared up. We have a new speedster, a new villain, and some threads from last season to keep pulling.

The Flash returns for a new season on The CW and Sky One in October 2018.
