It looks like it's going to be quite a trip for Thor and Hulk.

With so many superhero movies and blockbuster reboots on their way, it's hard not to be excited. But out of all the movies premiering this year, #ThorRagnarok has to be one that's generating the most interest.

Since Thor: Ragnarok will be the last cosmic-venturing story to take place in the MCU before the Avengers unite to take on #Thanos in #AvengersInfinityWar, Thor: Ragnarok will be setting the stage for the #Avengers battle with Thanos. But before we move on to Avengers: Infinity War, we still need to get through the events of Thor: Ragnarok and it looks like it's going to be quite a trip for Thor and Hulk - according to the official synopsis released.

Earlier today, #Disney released a packet of information on 2017's movie line-up, which included several documents on Thor: Ragnarok. One of which contained a full synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok and reveals quite a few things of the upcoming film. Here's the synopsis:

In Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!

The brief synopsis doesn't spoil too much but if you've been following the casting announcements and which characters are expected to appear in Thor: Ragnarok, this official synopsis sheds a lot of light on the film, exposing a few mysteries, while at the same time, drawing up new questions.

Here are three of the biggest takeaways found in the official synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok:

Thor Imprisoned?

One of the biggest mysteries drawn up in the synopsis is how Thor has been imprisoned. Apparently, Thor is without his hammer and imprisoned on a distant planet, probably Sakarr.

The planet, Sakarr has been confirmed to be one of the settings of Thor: Ragnarok so it's likely that Thor has been imprisoned on #Sakarr. Captives of the planet, Sakarr are forced into gladiatorial matches for survival which would give us the location of Thor's whereabouts at some point in the film. The synopsis also indicates that Thor is forced to face the #Hulk in gladiatorial combat which would add some evidence to the claim of Thor being imprisoned on Sakarr.

How Does Thor Lose His Hammer?

Another intriguing question drawn up by the synopsis is how Thor loses his hammer when Thor's hammer, Mjonir always returns to him. The aspect of Thor's hammer always returning to him has been established in the comics and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so it's quite a surprise that he's left without it in Thor: Ragnarok. The explanation behind why Thor has lost his hammer will be intriguing to find out about but until then, we can only speculate on how Thor loses his hammer.

The most logical explanation is that Thor was tricked into giving it up. No one can plausibly take the hammer from Thor so the only person who might be able to manipulate Thor into giving it up is #Loki.

Loki was last seen impersonating Odin in Thor: The Dark World so it wouldn't be too far of a stretch for Loki to continue impersonating Odin while he persuades Thor into giving up the hammer, just to have an opportunity at banishing Thor to a distant planet before he can summon the hammer back to his side. In that scenario, Thor's imprisonment on a distant planet (without his hammer) could be explained by a treacherous plan thought out by Loki.

Asgard Is Under Attack

Something else to note in the synopsis is that #Hela will be invading Asgard and stopping her invasion is the only way to keep #Ragnarok from happening; in other words, the end of the universe.

The beginning of the film will likely depict Thor preoccupied with getting off of Sakarr alive but his more important journey will see him defending Asgard from Hela and her hordes.

The latest grouping of set videos to be captured from the set of Thor: Ragnarok teases Hela (Kate Blanchett) storming the halls of an Asgardian building. That scene makes sense now that we can confirm Hela's invasion of Asgard. But another question drawn up here asks why Hela is invading Asgard? Could it be due to Odin leaving the throne vacant or does Hela want something else, like someone's soul?

In the comics, Hela is known to manipulate others by holding their souls as bargaining chips, most agree to her terms which is why a similar situation could play out in Thor: Ragnarok. And if the rumors of Lady Sif (Jaime Alexander) dying turn out to be true, then Thor could wage a bargain with Hela in exchange for Lady Sif's return but what would Thor give up in exchange, his hammer?

All We Learned From The Official Synopsis For Thor: Ragnarok.

Aside from what could be exchanged, the real question is what Hela wants so badly from Asgard that she's willing to wage a full invasion - that's what we really need to focus on.

Those were just some of the key moments deciphered from the official synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok. The synopsis itself doesn't provide too much and isn't too far off into spoiler territory but well worth knowing since we now know that Thor is once again without his hammer, and this time around he has to save Asgard from extinction without it. So, it looks like Thor is going to have a difficult battle ahead of him in Thor: Ragnarok but at least he'll be accompanied by his pal, Hulk - that is, until they decide to start punching each other's faces in; which is guaranteed to happen at some point in the film.

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and sees Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
