What We Could See in a 'Captain Marvel' Sequel

'Captain Marvel' has smashed the one billion mark, and is flying higher, further, and faster than many expected. A sequel is now assured, and here is what we could see.

She changed MCU history by meeting Fury.

Captain Marvel was met with more skepticism than any other MCU film. However, those cynics have had to pipe down, as the movie has soared past the one billion mark, and become the 7th highest grossing MCU film. There is no certainty that it will not pass others, but being high above the majority is an amazing feat for the first female led MCU flick.

It has been reported that Brie Larson has been contracted for at least seven movies, which means she is set to appear in at least another five, with Avengers: Endgame marking her second appearance. With the success of the film, it is pretty much guaranteed Marvel has already set a team to work on a sequel for the character. But, what could we see in her next solo adventure?

Heading to the 2000s

Another time hop back could be highly likely.

Captain Marvel 2 would surly feature another hop in time like the first film. Set in 1995, the first film has over 20 years to catch up with the rest of the MCU. What is most likely is for the film to jump to 2005 (roughly), and fill in a gap on Captain Marvel's history. She surely has a good space themed adventure to fill us in on over her 20 year break from Earth.

For Photon to Arrive

Monica is destined for greatness.

The first film made it clear to all how a young Monica Rambeau looks up to her auntie Carol, even choosing their team colours. Well, in the comics Monica is a superhero in her own rights, and has even held the codename of Captain Marvel at one time. Captain Marvel 2 could offer an origin story for a secondary characters, much like how the first film did for Nick Fury.

The Return of Yon-Rogg

Jude Law was the Kree Star Warrior of Yon-Rogg

Captain Marvel made it clear at the end of her film, she was coming to end the Supreme Intelligence. We know she has not succeeded by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, as Ronin and the Kree were quite prominent in their strike against the Nova Corp. However, her sequel could offer the return of Yon-Rogg, as he fights to redeem himself in the eyes of the Supreme Intelligence.

Enter the Queen

Veranke the Queen of the Skrull

The first films made it clear that Carol is going to aid the Skrulls in finding a new home. This would suggest more Skrull are due to arrive, and their Queen has to be among them. Veranke could be introduced as an ally, but by making it clear her allegiance is to her people and no other, this could then lead to a 'Secret Invasion' phase in the MCU, as it is written.

Aided by a Man, a Wonder Man

Nathan Fillion has already signed up for the role

When Joss Wheddon directed Avengers: Age of Ultron, he wanted Captain Marvel to join the new team of Avengers at the films conclusion. His purpose was to show their were more heroes out there, but the viewer just hadn't seen them yet. Captain Marvel confirmed this as she was the first hero Fury met, so perhaps Wonder Man could make his debut and prove their are more like her out there. He has kind of appeared already, so it is possible.

More Goose

Just ask Fury, this is a cat you don't want to mess with.

Goose was one of the highlights in the film, as Carol's feline companion joined her in her the adventure, just with a new name. Goose has never been seen or mentioned in the MCU until Captain Marvel. What happened to Goose? Perhaps a sequel set in to 2000s could answer why this almighty feline has been absent from the rest of the MCU, hopefully we won't need to grab the tissues.

More on Mar Vell

Annette Bening altered the original Mar Vell into something wonderful.

Mar Vell saw a gender change from her comic book counterpart, and Annette Bening brought a new life to the long dead character. Hopefully a sequel will show more of Mar Vell's past, and what caused her to turn her back on the Kree Empire, and aim to aid the Skrulls instead.
