What the Hell Happened with Homelander for the Final Season of The Boys???
Why didn't the writers go all out with Homelander's insanity???

Warning: Major spoilers will be talked about for this article.
I have not watched the final season, but I heard that a lot of people were upset with the ending to Homelander's character. While I am against hearing about spoilers, I decided to take a peek, because people were angry with so many things for the final season. I couldn't believe how bad the writers had butchered the character of Homelander.
There were two things I did not understand with his character:
- Homelander did not take advantage of his new powers, going berserk on the world.
- Homelander suddenly got weak in the final episode for no reason.
I was so disappointed to hear that Homelander did not have a crazy freak out moment before his death. Homelander killing a crapload of people had been hinted since season 2, during a moment with Homelander picturing himself slaughtering a bunch of people after losing his mind. I assumed this was going to happen after Homelander finally got his hands on the V1 after Soldier Boys offers to hand it over to him.
This occured at the end of episode 6, so I ASSUMED that we were going to get an insane scene during the next episode with Homelander going crazy, killing so many people in the world. I'm not saying this should have been done for shock value, but for his character, it makes sense. Homelander is a train wreck, a man who values love from people to a scary point, and I'm sure that if he had lost that, he would have accepted that he can whatever he wants, and he would have gone on a killing spree.
We needed a moment like this, to make his death even more impactful. People were happy that he died in fear, but imagine if we had known about the damage he had already done to the world before this. The stakes would have been even higher, and Soldier Boy most likely would have switched sides to the Boys after witnessing his mistake.
I also don't get why Homelander's powers were nerfed so badly in the final fight. It would have made sense if Soldier Boy had done something to the V1 powers to trick his own son, and in reality, he was indeed strong, but to other superheroes, he was still weak. That would have been an excellent twist, and it would have made sense, but in this case…I don't get what the hell happened.
I think the writers were desperate to give fans your typical Hollywood ending, so they straight up got rid of Homelander's powers for some reason, despite being STRONGER, and yet…he still struggled to fight against everyone for the final fight.
I don't understand what the writers were thinking during the production of the final season. It's a huge shame that we got something so underwhelming. I'm still watching season 3 of this show, and I think the first three seasons were peak writing when it came to the superhero battles, and I loved how ruthless all of the fights were.
It also disappoints me how we see Homelander slowly going crazy in the first three seasons. I really expected to hear Homelander killing a lot of people, and if that had been the case, I would have avoided all the spoilers for the final season, but once I started to hear the opposite, I was so upset with how the writing was done for the final season.
I think this is truly the first time where I felt very disappointed with a final season for a television show. This reminds me so much of the Night King from Game of Thrones. This dude had been hinted by the writers to be the final battle among all the kingdoms, but instead, we got him killed very early in the final season.
The Boys did the same thing, by writing a great villain, that ended up becoming weak FOR NO REASON in the final episode.
What a shame.
