What Disney Brings to Streaming

Disney is a global powerhouse. It will be both intriguing and rewarding to see what they bring to the streaming game later this year.

Disney Plus is set to revolutionize the streaming way of life by bringing multiple generations together in one easy to use App.

I am not a fan of the majority of the streaming services available, but not all of them have the celebrated content that Disney Plus will have. Not all of them have Marvel, Star Wars, and classic Disney films all in one spot. Plus the US option can come with the addition of Hulu and ESPN. That's one stop shopping for Women, Men, and Children. If Disney Plus worldwide and in the US does not break the record for single day streaming sign ups that would shock so many.

This is the prime for Disney to be releasing this service. It comes on the heels of Marvel's big announcements via Comic Con, and the announcement of an Ewan McGregor leading the Obi-Wan series.

Those are two big reasons from just a creative standpoint. The biggest reason Disney Plus will be a massive success is the catalogue of classics that are coming with the service that Netflix cannot compete with. That's not to say Netflix doesn't have good content. Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, On My Block and 13 Reasons Why come to mind for the top notch Netflix viewing. However, Orange just wrapped its seven season run, and many have been vocal about their displeasure with season two of 13 Reasons Why.

In an already over-saturated market, it helps Disney to advertise to fans exactly what they have loved for many years. It brings families together to sit down and watch a beloved classic. With a starting price in Canada at $8.99 and the US at $6.99, it's almost unbeatable. Crave+HBO+Movies is around 24 dollars a month, and while it has a variety of content, it feels abundantly clear that the over charge is for the premium shows and movies that HBO has to offer. While it's not the blame of the content, 24 dollars or more seems a bit steep in a world where Gas is on the rise weekly, and the cost of living is only rising.

Streaming seems to be the go-to for content, but while it has to provide stellar content, it also cannot break the bank and still expect to keep customers. Netflix is $13.99 while Crave is $24 for the HBO add on. That's nearly 40 dollars a month on top of my general internet bill just to watch quality shows that I can't seem to find anymore. I find myself scrolling through Netflix and scouring their original films for something that even begins to whet my appetite. On My Block filled all my needs, but I breezed through the two seasons in one weekend.

It seems like Netflix shows come and go with so much time passed, because they have three seasons of 10 episodes, and it takes four to five years to see it all unfold. While traditional shows have 22 episodes, and air between September and May each year. It is an investment to stick with a weekly series more so than it is to keep up with a show you can choose to watch. Binge-watching seems to be the way of a miniseries, and one can only look to Netflix's own 13 Reasons Why to seehow quickly fans can change their opinion a show.

Disney is a global powerhouse, and it does not look to be slowing down anytime soon with the next phases of Marvel and Star Wars having been announced. With those two catalogues alone, this streaming service could have content for years. Disney has done big things, but I fully expect this to be the absolute biggest by far globally and socially for longterm fans of what Disney has been bringing to the table.
