What Comes Next for Wanda Maximoff?

A look into what might be in store for the MCU’s greatest sorceress.

Well, Multiverse of Madness is in the bag for us Marvel fans and we got our villainous Wanda, but what comes next? If you’ve seen the movie, you know that at the end, there was a flash of red that signals that she did some sort of magic spell. Was that her spells dying out and her erasing herself from life? Or was it a new spell that sent her somewhere else, saving her from the fate she thought she had deserved? While we waited for the official answer, I had some thoughts.

First, we want to look into the one that even Elizabeth Olsen said that she was interested in tackling, House of M. The original story line would follow pretty well with the current MCU path, but with a twist. Wanda could have put herself into a new world where her family is the ruling class, or it could have been a darker take. What if it’s a dream? Her perfect life. Her parents were alive and well, and the rulers of an island nation of people who are just like them. Where she isn’t seen as a threat or a freak, where she’s beloved. Where she could have Vision and love him without being shunned, and their children are alive and well.

Of course, this would mean that the X-Men would be there as well, as most of the world in the House of M story were, in fact, mutants. Making the world into the perfect reality, where no one is looked down on for having powers because everyone has them. She would be happy and carefree. But of course, not everything would be perfect and someone eventually realizes that the world isn’t real, and it’s all a dream where Wanda needs to wake up and face the fact that she lost. She lost not only her loving boyfriend, but her children. This would destroy her and would awaken her from the dream, but maybe… a little of it seeps through. The mutants stay. When she awakens, she finds that there are people just like her now. She’s no longer a freak, and just another super powered mutant in the world.

Do I think this story line is the one they’re going to use next? No. But I do believe we’ll see it in the future. Sadly, to get the full scope of the story we need the X-Men or at least have mutants in the MCU and since we don’t have them yet, it’s be said to see this story play out completely without them. Maybe before the next phase we will get some hint that they are being introduced officially and we can speculate some more about the House of M, but for now, let’s put this idea on the back burner.

My second and last idea is for one of my favorite story lines from the Young Avengers comics. The Children’s Crusade. The story revolves around Billy and Tommy trying to find their mother, which they have been trying to do since they first met each other. But in the MCU it would be a little different, as both the boys aren’t exactly in a position where they can easily search for her.

Let’s speculate for a moment that they did not destroy Billy and Tommy like everyone seems to believe they were. What if it was like in the comics where instead their souls were sent elsewhere, and because of the massive number of times it had cast the spell, the buildup combined to form actual bodies for the two boys. But it stranded them inside the Gap realm between the multiverse.

This would show the two having to fight their way through the various multiverse to try to get back to their mother, similar to how Wanda should have gone about trying to find them, but she went a little dark side. Billy and Tommy could run into other young heroes to help them along the ways, maybe even show them growing up along the travels so when they finally enter back into the main 616 MCU universe, they are ready and willing to fight everyone and everything that gets in their way of finding their mom.

In the original story, Wanda’s memory was destroyed after House of M and she ended up being taken in by Victor Von Doom. Who had been introduced yet in the MCU, and with the future of the Fantastic Four still up in the air (as of this writing we still don’t have a solid director), this could be a good way to introduce him outside the normal way. Doom took Wanda in and Wanda ended up falling in love with him and the two would have be married, however Doom only wanted Wanda for her magic and wanted to steal her powers from her, sort of like Wanda just did with America. So, it would make sense for the same thing to suddenly happen to her.

Enter the boys, who now have a team behind them and a mission. To save their mom from a dictator.

The fights would be on par with the rest of the MCU’s stuff, and we could get to see some more of the birth of the Young Avengers which the MCU has been slowly building up for. Hell, they could even show case some of Doom’s evilest side and show off some of the dark magic users that he associates with.

No matter what way they end up going, I’m sure the Wanda Maximoff movie is going to be a good one. There are so many good stories revolving around her, and she is a force of nature who has stolen the hearts of fans everywhere. Saying goodbye to her now, just doesn’t seem right, and honestly…

I think we’ll have Wanda for many years to come.
