Iris West-Allen and Barry Allen

There are so many great duos that have been formed since the dawn of time. We have duos like Batman and Robbin, Kobe and Shaq, peanut butter and jelly, one pair that is the “underdog“ is from one of my favorite shows on CW, “The Flash”. There is two characters on the show that starts off as friends that help save the world from all their enemies that come in their way, that built a chemistry through all the trials and tribulations they have encountered. The two characters I am speaking of is Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen.

For the people who are not familiar with the show, Barry Allen is a superhero that got his powers from a experiment that went wrong and Iris is a reporter from their local city newspaper that so happen to both be raised in the same house hold because Barry Allen mother was killed and his father was framed for her death. The two become very close friends in the beginning, although Barry have always had feelings for Iris since he was a kid. As the show goes on Barry tries to keep his identity, a secret for her own safety but struggles with it. Once she found out his secret she begin to help Barry and his team fight his enemies using her brain and the majority of her emotional side to push Barry to conquer any fear that he may be enduring.

Alot of the battles that the flash (Barry Allen) had fought and conquered was because of the emotional support that he had from Iris. Although Barry did the physical part of saving the world, Iris who later becomes his wife in the future seasons, think outside of the box to help him in victory. Behind every strong man is an strong woman. Although there was supporting characters to help fight the battles, Barry channeled his will to win from Iris.

I recall from one of the earlier seasons where the flash was stuck in another time dimension for a period time and when he returned back he wasn’t the same person. He was talking in code, and nothing he said would make sense. That same behavior went on for a few episodes until another foe of his was trying to get to him, had kidnapped Iris to lure the flash to chase him. Well the plan did work, Barry was able to come to his senses and save Iris and he was able to stop the threat that was in his way. There are a few more similar occurrences that happens on the show were Iris is in trouble and Barry is able to save her. They are able to channel their abilities off of each other.

“Run Iris Run”

In another episode Barry loses his powers and Iris gets them and the roles get reversed as Barry is the one “sitting in the backseat” as Iris has the responsibility of the flash and have to save Central City. In this particular episode Iris has to learn how to use her new powers as a Barry tries to show her through explanation and experience. But just as he did, Iris struggles at first with learning how to control her new powers as Barry have to guide her and give her pep talks on what she need to do to adapt and overcome her new problems.

Up into this point in the show the two have been able to stop every villain they have faced with some help from the supporting cast. With Berry being the brawn and Iris being the brain the two make up to be an dangerous pair together that is ready to take on the world. You don’t believe me? Watch the show for yourself and you decide who is a better combination.
