WandaVision

The Devil is CERTAINLY in the Details

So...for those of us here who are Day 1 MCU fans, WandaVision is already having many of us fiending for episode after episode, waiting for the dots to begin connecting to the main cinematic story arcs that have already been delivered to us. Now, for the Day 1 Marvel Comics fans like myself, this has many of us, like myself downright confused and fully vexed as to what is ACTUALLY going on in this warped reality Wanda has apparently thrown her, Vision and the other citizens of Westview into. Furthermore, its left us wondering who or what is the main antagonist. We all know there is a baddie lurking somewhere in the budding multiverse that Kevin Feige has only merely begun to weld together.

Of course, what I write here is all but weightless speculation and conjecture but hear me out while I unfold my theory as to who/what is actually pulling the strings in Wanda's picture perfect reality. I also understand that this theory is not necessarily new or isn't as palpable as some others that are already floating around but please, indulge a zealous fan would you kindly?

My first instinct is to link whatever malevolence is occurring between the lines to the powers prominently at play in this seemingly personally tailored reality Wanda has woven for her and her synthezoid lover, Vision. Wanda's powers in the beginning were based mainly in her ability manipulate objects and the minds of her targets, but over time, her powers have progressively grown, from gaining the ability to communicate with the Mind stone infused in the forehead of her lover to being able to hold back 5 of the other Infinity Stones literally singlehandedly while SIMULTANEOUSLY destroying the Mind stone with the other hand. But now, we see her power has taken the young Scarlett Witch into new and astounding territory. She has seemingly developed the ability to warp reality to her will, creating whatever series of events she wants to occur, even going so far as to being able create objects, manipulating matter on the fly.

I digress though...let me stop bragging on how our beautiful young witch has grown and developed over the years and get to the point. With all these things at mind, we must ponder who or what is lurking about in Wanda's new reality, what do they want, and what is it about Wanda and her powers that they might want? These are obviously powers that if controlled by the wrong entity, could mean the end for many individuals or even many iterations of said individuals' reality or as many of us Marvel fans know it as...The Multiverse. And lets keep in mind that WandaVision directly ties into Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness where Wanda partners with the Sorcerer Supreme to combat some evil, mystical force.

So what magical, reality warping foes are we familiar with that could benefit from these astounding mystic abilities that Wanda has manifested? The main arcane baddie that comes to mind is none other than Mephisto (Marvel's version of Satan).

My Mephisto theory directly stems from a quote that caught my attention within the show itself. When Dottie makes the statement to the neighborhood women that "the devil is in the details", Agnes (who I believe to be Agnes the Witch from the comics) slyly replies "that's not the only place he is". One might dismiss this as Agnes taking a shot at Dottie but I'm willing to bet that many of my fellow Marvel vets didn't let that devilish detail slide into the void. This may be a hard reach but I have a heavy suspicion that this line from Agnes who again, I suspect to be the one and only Agnes Harkness from the comic book series is a slick allusion to the possibly inevitable debut of Mephisto himself. I mean why not? Wanda just gave birth to twins just as she did in the comics which in the comics turned out to be living tools of Mephisto's will. Let's also not forget that this show will tie directly into Doctor Strange's sequel movie. In the comics, the Sorcerer Supreme has faced off against the devilish foe on several occasions which also feeds into my theory that Mephisto could possibly be the shows main antagonist. He is known for creating pocket dimensions that ensnare his victims and would it be so ridiculous to think that Wanda struck a Faustian deal with the demon to have what she truly desired all along...a perfect, domestic life with the "man" she loves with all of her heart.
