Samantha Brown as Angela Wright

For the last two and a half years, Tubi has really served up some delicious Lifetime-esque thrillers, with some deliciously fiendish and malevolent villainesses--some of whom I've mentioned on Vocal. So what does Tubi have in store for us in 2024? Well, if this film, My Husband's Baby, is any indication, I think this year may top last year when it comes to the wicked women of Tubi.

The centerpieces of this film are Mecca and Damien Noble; big time power couple. Damien's a pro football coach, while wife Mecca is part of the reality show, Trophy Wives. All looks well, until it doesn't. In the words of Wade Barrett, "I'm afraid Damien has some bad news." Turns out, he's been hit with a lawsuit. A paternity lawsuit. The woman behind the suit is Angela Wright, who works at a daycare center and claims that she's carrying Damien's baby. Now, the Nobles figure that this will be easy. Just demand a paternity test, she'll refuse, and there you have it. Doubt working against her, right?

Yeah, about that.

The first meeting saw Angela actually offer to take a paternity test. Oh boy. That spells certainty, and of course, Damien was the father (didn't need Maury Povich for that). So we have a full scandal on our hands, as it appears that Damien messed around with Angela, but that's not all Mecca has to deal with. She has to deal with her friend and publicist, Trish, wanting Mecca to help her demonize Damien, her producer Aaron sees this whole thing as golden television, and as for Angela, she's moving in on the Nobles' lives, and really making herself at home.

Things become morbid when Trish suddenly drops dead, as she's been poisoned. All the while, Angela's doing a different type of poisoning--the type where she basically throws herself at Damien and attempts to lure him to her clutches, which also includes revealing her knowledge of Mecca's failed attempts to conceive--to Mecca's face. Wow. So Mecca decides to call Angela's workplace for some info on her. Here's what they basically said:

"Angela Wright? Never heard of her."

Well, they didn't say it like that, but I wanted to go the Chase Claypool route (Google it, folks). So yeah, Angela never worked there, and it turned out her real name was Angela Zimmerman, and she was from California, not from Florida as she claimed. Meanwhile, Damien began to figure out what really went down, as did Jalen (one of Damien's players), who was later attacked by a hooded figure. Damien had sent a text to Mecca, but the phone was intercepted by Angela, who suddenly held Mecca at gunpoint.

Angela later orders Mecca to drink a poisoned glass of wine, but in response, Mecca dares the madwoman to shoot her. Angela takes that dare and shoots her right in the shoulder, and even worse, Mecca's escape is thwarted by a surprise conspirator (well, not so surprising): Aaron. So yeah, Angela and Aaron are in cahoots, and regarding the former, this was a revenge plot. As it turned out, and as Damien also figured out, Angela and Damien never did the horizontal Curly Shuffle with each other. She was actually Jalen's ex-girlfriend--the same one who stole a watch from him after attacking him during their relationship. So where does Damien fit in to all of this? Turns out, when Jalen vented to Damien about Angela, Damien advised Jalen to leave Angela, which he does--with Angela pregnant with Jalen's baby.

Angela lost the baby afterwards, so she set her vengeful plan in motion. Plan A, seducing Damien, failed, but as Seth Rollins once said, "There's always a Plan B." Angela used her position with a fertility clinic to steal Damien's sperm and impregnate herself, which led to everything in the film's events, and regarding Aaron, he's the one who eliminated Trish and attacked Jalen, The result would have seen Angela on Trophy Wives, with Aaron as the producer, but right after Aaron was ordered to kill Mecca, he found himself disarmed by Mecca, who tossed a vase at Aaron before plunging a shard of glass right into Aaron's neck.

As for Angela, she was held at gunpoint by Mecca, though Angela had another glass shard pointed at her unborn baby...which was later on the verge of coming out. An ambulance was called, and once that arrived, so did Damien, which saw the couple reveal everything to each other. So a few months pass, and Angela's baby is adopted by the Nobles, with Mecca revealing that Jalen had to testify at Angela's trial. In the final moments, Mecca received a note which was quite ominous, and it was signed, "Mommy." Ooh boy.

My Husband's Baby was released on Tubi on February 22, 2024, and featured Samantha Brown as villainess Angela Wright. She's three-for-three, folks! This is her third Lifetime(-esque) film, and she's still batting 1.000--three movies, three villainesses. In 2021, Samantha Brown played vengeful villainess Claire Matthews in Revenge Delivered, and in early 2023, we saw her on Lifetime again as the evil Allie Armstrong in The Plot to Kill My Mother. Regarding Angela Wright, she was absolutely cunning, devious, manipulative, and immensely vengeful. She knew what she wanted, she knew who she was after, and all of that made her dangerous and amazing as hell. The way she slithered her way into the Nobles' lives was just wild, and regarding Brown's performance, she truly knocked it out of the park in this film.

Samantha Brown is getting the hang of this villainess thing. She's done it three times in Lifetime and Tubi films, and I can see her doing it again. I can also see her take center stage as a central protagonist as well, she has that range.

Angela Wright/Zimmerman is one truly deranged lady, and Samantha Brown played her to perfection. I enjoyed Brown's two heel roles for Lifetime, but I also agree with you about her playing a central protagonist one day. I really want that to happen.
