Villainess Review: Alyssa James (Picture Perfect Sister-In-Law)

A journalist survives one threat but is on the receiving end of a closer threat in this 2026 Lifetime film

Christie Campo as Alyssa James

We are just over halfway into 2026, and this year has been an impressive one so far when it comes to Lifetime villainesses. I am still buzzing over seeing Jamie-Lynn Sigler as a demented villainess in The Man in the Window, and I think we will see a lot more amazing villainesses as the year progresses. I say that because of a long standing theory I've believed for about nine years now: the best villainesses from any platform (including and especially Lifetime) come during the home stretch and playoffs in any sport. And the next home stretch month is September, oh man!

It's been a minute since my last Lifetime-centered Villainess Review, but I do know enough to about this one. Picture Perfect Sister-In-Law, the title alone screams "villainess," so let's dive in!

The film centered on Parker Beaumont, a journalist who survived a harrowing ordeal with the Carousel Killer, and we see her visiting her brother, David Beaumont, and his wife, Kate Beaumont, early in the film. The scene also sees Parker approached by her neighbor, Harvey Purvis, regarding a package he received, while also asking about someone named Alyssa, assuming that it was Parker. To Parker's surprise, that would be the last time she'd see Harvey alive.

Harvey was found deceased, and Parker suddenly found music boxes in her place. Parker truly believed that the Carousel Killer was after her again, but a visit to the killer, Zach Gaffin, in prison told her everything she needed to know: it wasn't him. She had confided in her PI, Bob Willingham, but he ended up as another casualty, and she was nearly run down by a car. By this point, Kate voiced her lack of comfort regarding Parker's investigation, and to make matters worse, David was speaking against his own sister and lambasting her, because it's not a Lifetime movie without a husband with a spine that's made of Play-Doh.

Parker's investigation continued and we would see a surprising turn... in the form of Kate. Kate suddenly entered Parker's car and made a number of revelations, the first one being that her real name is Alyssa James. In addition, Alyssa/Kate was hiding from her husband, Calvin Heely, under a claim that their marriage was an abusive one. We would later see Alyssa at a cabin waiting for Calvin, who was holding Alyssa at gunpoint when Parker entered after waiting outside. Regarding Calvin's reasoning, he stated that Alyssa killed his brother, a claim that Alyssa denied while pleading with her sister-in-law. However, as Parker attempted to calm Calvin down, Alyssa suddenly took out a gun of her own and shot Calvin to death.

And right there, the mask came off. The fake facade that was Kate Beaumont was gone, and in her place was Alyssa James--in her true evil glory. The truth all came out; Alyssa was living quite the dangerous lifestyle, and her marriage to Calvin was her way out. The renamed Katherine Martin was comfortable, until Calvin's brother dug into her past. Alyssa killed Calvin's brother, left Calvin to be accused of the murder, and moved on to David Beaumont, becoming not only David's wife, but also the mother of his children. Regarding Harvey and Bob's murders, Alyssa committed them. The music boxes? Alyssa planted them. Parker being nearly run down? Also Alyssa.

Alyssa said that she was enjoying her life with David and everything that came with it, including Parker. Despite this, Alyssa blamed Parker's investigation for her actions, and she was now looking to kill Parker and portray Parker and Calvin as having killed each other. At that moment, David arrived after Parker disarmed Alyssa, and Alyssa went into "damsel in distress" mode. David didn't buy it and held his wicked wife at gunpoint, leading to Alyssa berating David before making her attempted escape. Unfortunately for the villainess, the police were waiting for her, and with that, the woman with as many names as the Colorado Avalanche have Stanley Cups was arrested.

Picture Perfect Sister-In-Law aired on Lifetime on March 29, 2026, and featured Christie Campo as the evil Alyssa James (aka Katherine Martin and Kate Beaumont). This came one day after Jamie-Lynn Sigler's villainous Lifetime film role, so that was an amazing weekend for Lifetime villainesses. Regarding Alyssa, she was manipulative, bloodthirsty, and very ruthless. She wanted to bury her past badly enough to kill to do so, and it was quite the body count. In addition, we were treated to a delicious shot of Alyssa in the "hoodie of evil," and it was a beautiful flashback shot that shows Alyssa fully all in on her fiendishly villainous persona.

Christie Campo absolutely nailed it as Alyssa; her most shining moments came when she feigned distress and when she showed her true evil colors to Parker and David in the climax. This was Campo's first Lifetime film, let alone her first Lifetime villainess role, and I truly hope she does more films, especially as an evildoer!
