The Nintendo Switch launched back in March 2017 with a brand-new Zelda game to boot. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released along with the Nintendo Switch and various other games. It quickly became one of the top-selling games on the Switch. There have been rumours for a while about two of the games in the franchise, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess being released onto the Nintendo Switch for a while now. I had to write about it as these are two of my favourite Zelda games. I truly think people are bored waiting for the release of the sequel to Breath of the Wild which is what started these rumours in the first place. As of September 13th, the sequel to Breath of the Wild has been set for release as of May 12th, 2023 and the official name is now being confirmed as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This was confirmed during the latest Nintendo Direct that launched on September 14th, 2022.
Now, these are just rumours spread by fans. Nintendo has not officially confirmed anything yet. The two games were already remastered for the Nintendo Wii U within the past few years. Twilight Princess was released in March 2016 and Wind Waker was released in September 2013. Both games were revamped with new twists compared to their original counterparts on the GameCube and Wii. Ever since Skyward Sword (originally released on the Nintendo Wii) was released onto the Nintendo Switch in 2020, the rumours began spreading like wildfire. Now I see this as Zelda fans just being bored while waiting for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to be released.
Nintendo already has a wide range of Zelda games released onto the Nintendo Switch, such as Breath of the Wild, Link's Awakening, Skyward Sword, Hyrule Warriors, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. I might piss a few people off by including the Hyrule Warriors series as they are not technically linear Zelda games, but I do believe they hold a place as a Zelda game franchise. Hell, I only bought them because of the fact that they were Zelda games in my mind.
Personally, I’d be very excited if Nintendo actually goes through with it and releases both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, two very popular games for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has stopped production of the 3DS as of 2020 as more and more fans have grabbed their hands on a copy of the versatile Nintendo Switch. What I mean by that is I think fans would be disappointed if Nintendo didn’t release those two classic games (Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask) for the Nintendo Switch as well as Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. You really can’t please everybody and I think that’s why Nintendo is hesitant to confirm or deny these rumours about Wind Waker and Twilight Princess because they should release other classic Zelda games as well.
As much as I want to see Wind Waker and Twilight Princess released onto the Nintendo Switch, I could see other fans being upset that games such as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are not being released as well, especially since Nintendo has stopped production of the 3DS. As long as the Nintendo E-Shop is still open, you can still purchase the two classic games.
I really think this is just a rumour that will not stand after the release of the latest addition, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Although after the latest game trailer, my Zelda itch has been scratched for the time being. And there really is no better time for this new game to come out other than May as that is my birthday month. Might as well spoil myself next year with the new Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
