Umbrella Academy Season 3 Character Posters Introduce the Sparrows

The Umbrella Academy season 3 character posters have been released, introducing each of the seven members of the Sparrow Academy. The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix series based on the comic books series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The series follows the seven superpowered adult Hargreeves siblings as they strive to save the world from the apocalypse. The seven Hargreeves were adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who sought to adopt as many babies as he could from a group of 43 children, all born on the same day with special abilities. The Umbrella Academy has run for two seasons and a third is set to premiere this year.

Details regarding the third season of Umbrella Academy have been fairly sparse so far. It has been a year and a half now since Umbrella Academy season 2 premiered, and season 3 still remains without a release date. However, the cast has confirmed that Umbrella Academy season 3 has wrapped filming. Meanwhile, Netflix has also confirmed the season 3 episode titles, as well as that the season will release sometime in 2022. Besides these small teases, viewers have been largely left in the dark about season 3, but it seems Netflix is seeking to remedy that.

Netflix has released character posters for each of the seven Sparrow Academy members. The Sparrow Academy was very briefly glimpsed at the end of season 2, with the actors and members of the Sparrow Academy being confirmed after the season's conclusion. However, these posters mark the first time that fans have actually gotten a clear, close-up look of these actors in character as the Sparrow Academy.

The Sparrow Academy was briefly introduced at the end of season 2 when the Umbrella Academy arrives back to the present after a stint in the 1960s. However, their antics in the 60s seemingly caused a change in the timeline, leading Sir Reginald Hargreeves to found the Sparrow Academy instead of the Umbrella Academy. The timeline change also led to their formerly deceased brother, Ben, to still be alive and a member of the Sparrows. The actors who will portray the Sparrows are Justin Cornwell (Marcus), Justin H. Min (Ben), Britne Oldford (Fei), Jake Epstein (Alphonso), Genesis Rodriguez (Sloane), Cazzie David (Jayme), and Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube (Christopher). The character posters see each of these actors in character and costume from the eyes up.

The character posters are quite exciting and reveal further what kind of atmosphere the Sparrows bring with them. Viewers can immediately see that this group is quite a bit more roughed up and hardened than the Umbrella Academy is. Number 3 and 4 both have quite noticeable scarring on their faces, but 3 looks more mysterious while 4 is more menacing. Most intriguing is probably Christopher's poster, which gives viewers a closer look at the non-human Sparrow Academy member Christopher is a telekinetic cube who is treated like family by the rest of the Academy. His poster certainly hints at something supernatural

Throughout comic book history, the power of hypnosis has almost always been given to villains such as Gorilla Grodd, Purple Man, Poison Ivy, and Mandrill among others. In terms of story mechanics, the power is distinctly sinister, as it is bent on controlling another person’s will. If a hero has the ability to hypnotize people, it could be a strange dynamic, as any heroic character wouldn’t be so quick to assert their will onto an innocent person. Despite the power not being a mainstay of Superman or Shazam, both Clark Kent and Billy Batson have been able to use hypnosis before.
