TV Serials are the most popular form of entertainment in India. They are watched by more than 80% of households in the country. Serials are widely popular in the southern states of India where movies and theatre productions have a few takers.

A typical serial is telecast on a weekly or daily basis and runs for months or even years at a stretch. The storyline is usually dramatic, with a strong emotional appeal. The characters are usually larger than life and often belong to either extremely rich families or extremely poor ones. Below are some of the blogs about movies and videos resolution:

πŸ‘‰ 1080p (Full-HD Quality)

πŸ‘‰ 720p (HD Quality)

πŸ‘‰ 480p (SD Quality)

πŸ‘‰ 360p (Low Quality)

Some of the serials revolve around family dramas such as those involving financial troubles, property disputes, marriages and other such matters. Others revolve around love triangles where the girl has to choose between two men who love her.

Some serials also focus on supernatural forces that control the lives of ordinary people, while some others showcase social issues such as discrimination against widows and disabled people, child marriage and polygamy among others.

Serials are telecasted at various times in the day, depending on their target audience. For example, serials targeted at housewives are aired during daytime hours when they are likely to be watching television, whereas serials targeted at younger audiences are aired later in the day.

When Did TV Serials Start

The first TV Serials started in the early 1930s. The first known television broadcast was a play that was performed live at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City on January 11, 1931. The play was transmitted by station W2XBS (now WCBS-TV), owned by RCA and located at the time at Bryant Park in New York City.

On September 7, 1946, DuMont premiered Mystery Theatre, which can be considered the first true television series.

The show ran Monday through Saturday in prime time and featured adaptations of mysteries written by famous authors such as John Dickson Carr and Mary Roberts Rinehart. Mystery Theatre ran until 1951.

The first regularly scheduled American TV drama program aired on June 28, 1946, on NBC's station in New York City, WNBT (now WNBC). The program was a presentation of the play "Candida," starring Judith Anderson and Halliwell Hobbes.

The live televised drama "Kraft Television Theatre" began production on April 30, 1947, and aired every Tuesday night on NBC from 9:00 to 10:00 PM, live from Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center.

How TV Serials are Made

Normally, a TV serial is about 22-30 minutes long. I am going to talk about how the shooting of TV serials are made. When we see those serials on television, we think that the actors are just acting and shooting is just happening in front of them without any preparation.

But the reality is different from what we think. They do lots of preparation for a single scene. The shooting is done only after everything is prepared properly.

First of all, the scriptwriter writes up the script which is read by everyone to get an idea about what will be happening on that particular day.

Then the scene breakdown is done by the assistant director who specifies which things will be required at a specific time and place during the shoot like a costume, make-up, furniture etc.

The art director creates a set according to the requirement mentioned in the scene breakdown. One thing that must be kept in mind while creating sets is that they should be easily dismantled and transported because they can have several shoots at different locations in a day.

The director makes a storyboard that consists of sketches of each scene so that he can tell his crew members exactly what he wants and what changes to be made where and when as per his requirements.

How TV Serials Make Money

It is a widely known fact that the Indian television industry is one of the largest in the world. The amount of revenue generated by this industry is quite astounding as well. In a nutshell, it can be said that it rakes in billions each year.

The means by which the TV serials are able to generate so much money is what we will be looking at in this article. Read on for more information about this topic.

Advertising: This is one of the most popular ways through which TV serials are able to make money. We all know just how important advertising has become these days. It is a tool that has helped businesses grow and expand thanks to its effectiveness.

The television industry has been able to make use of this very effectively. There are several types of commercials that are aired during serials and they help the companies sell their products or services and also get their brands known.

This helps not just the companies but also the television industry because they get paid for airing these advertisements during their programs.

Foreign Broadcast Rights: These rights have become extremely popular today in India. The fact that there are several websites where people can watch international content at any time has definitely played a role in increasing its popularity.
